If you plan on doing this yourself, find a nice heavy pair of needle nose pliers and put the ends in the knotches on the casing back. Have them as far apart from each other as you can and turn counter-clockwise. If you still have problems opening, put the watch in a vise with the lugs in the teeth of the vise. DO NOT tighten too hard or you will snap the lugs. It dosn't have to be tight , just enough to hold the watch while you turn the back. You have to take it to your nearest Citizen dealer, as you won't be able to replace stem yourself. Note: You do not need to remove or to do anything with the stem for replacing battery.

Sometimes the crown is screwed in to help keep it water tight. Turn the stem anti-clockwise to see if it will release "give several turns" if that fails return it for exchange.
