Since you didn't post a model number or any other pertinent information about your tractor, I will take a wild guess and say that you are probably referring to the transaxle release lever that allows you to roll the tractor when the engine is not running.
If you want better information you will have to find the model number that is also under the seat and either post it with your question or you can go to >> << and see if they have the owner's manual available for download

Could be the seat switch, the on/off switch, or the electromagnetic clutch. I would check them in that order.

Have a look at the saftey switches.theres one under the seat.and one under the blade engage lever.

There may also be one under the hood near the fuel tank.

Murry 21 inch lawn mower wont start geytting fuel and spark

if the mower is not due for a tune-up I would suggest making sure there is fresh clean gas in the tank. no water. if the unit starts and dies after you prime it may need a good cleaning and carb rebuid. commonly after a mower sits for a while the contaminants in the gas will cause a rubber seat to swell. thus raising the float and shutting
off the proper fuel flow. also is your compression good. many of the
Brggs OHV engines many times need a valve adjustment. you likley have a L-head engine and with age the valve clearances may need to be reset.

Mower starts but when the blade is engaged it stalls. Mower starts fine but when I press the lever to engage the blade the mower stalls immediately?

Check the pulleys on the of them is jammed or rusted to the point that will not turn.
