my kitchenaid mixer was stored on its side and leaked oil. I don't dare use it now. Can I replace the oil myself? There are no mixer repair centers anywhere near me.
your oil leaking is cause by a bad gasket or the gasket isn't seated properly. you can purchase this gasket but replacing it does require knowledge of the unit. part number for the gasket is 4162324. the grease can be purchased locally at any car parts dealer. generally a thicker paste type grease is used inside these units, but the original part number for the grease is 4160588 and comes in a container with enough grease for 5-8 mixers.hope this helps

I am having problems with my k5ss kitchenaid mixer. The problem happens when i tryed to even mix butter and sugar the paddle would not rotate under a load. It works fine with without any products in the bowl but as soon as i try to mix anything it just stops mixing. It does not smoke or heat up at all. All of the different speeds do work.

K5A 30 year old mixer will only operate at lowest five speeds. stays at speed 5 as control is moved upwards to ten. Over the past several years it wouldn't operate at speed 9 or 10, and just recently it gave up speeds 6, 7 and 8. Is it clogged with flour and powdered sugar?
