Question about Canon Digital Rebel / EOS-300D Digital Camera with EF-S 18-55mm Lens
Repair of this nature is possible, but ill advised. seals can be easily damaged, time would be prohibitive and likely need some special tools to manipulate screws and other fasteners. you will likely end up sending it in for more than pins after you invest a lot of time and buy tools.
shipping is minimum on a camera body. Canon has fixed price repairs that minimize your exposure to big bills for repairs. they will at that time go through the camera and update the firmware as well. worth the 250 or so they might charge.
unfortunately, you have two bodies that need repairs.
not powering up could mean an issue with the battery, or the camera door sensor, or the mother board.
check to see the camera battery and other camera body doors are fully closed. try another battery from a local shop. if that does not work, you will need to send it in for repairs.
sorry, and good luck
