Repair of this nature is possible, but ill advised. seals can be easily damaged, time would be prohibitive and likely need some special tools to manipulate screws and other fasteners. you will likely end up sending it in for more than pins after you invest a lot of time and buy tools.
shipping is minimum on a camera body. Canon has fixed price repairs that minimize your exposure to big bills for repairs. they will at that time go through the camera and update the firmware as well. worth the 250 or so they might charge.
unfortunately, you have two bodies that need repairs.
not powering up could mean an issue with the battery, or the camera door sensor, or the mother board.
check to see the camera battery and other camera body doors are fully closed. try another battery from a local shop. if that does not work, you will need to send it in for repairs.
sorry, and good luck

Screen reads ERR CF, I think I can see a broken card reader pin broke off. Camera purchased 9/2007. Worth fixing or option of up grade.

This was a $1500 camera with the kit lens. It's certainly worth fixing if you still love it. If you secretly want a brand new camera, then "I would throw out this piece of junk";) Or, get the new camera and get this one fixed for a back-up.

Pictures missing

If you haven't done so yet, take one of the cards, reformat it correctly (please ask again if you need info on how to do this) and see if you get any change. Are you using a PC card reader to transfer the photos or a USB cable? If you have a mains adaptor then try taking a set of pictures while still plugged in and see if you get the same problem. Your local camera shop may let you try this if you don't have an adaptor. If you don't get the same problem, then it is hopefully dirty battery terminals, which limit the available power/voltage for writing to the cf card. If you still get exactly the same problem when on AC power, then the most likely problem is dirt on the cf card slot terminals. The cf card slot pins are very hard to clean, battery terminals easier. Use a small amount of gin on a Q-tip/cotton bud for the battery contacts. best way with the Cf slot pins is a piece of new kitchen sponge(not the scratchy type) cut with scissors to a fraction larger than the cf card. push it gently in and out of the slot so the pins pierce it. a "hint" of gin on the sponge is necessary, but if you can get wetness when you squeeze it, it is too wet. Before you do any of these cleaning operations, have a very close look (with a magnifying glass if possible, and good light) to see if anything is actually strange in the battery compartment or card slot (the "dirt" is often grease and near invisible, so look for damaged or bent pins and insulation etc). Take any batteries etc out before cleaning and try to turn the camera on with no power source at least twice before touching the insides. If this doesn't help, or you need more assistance, then please ask. My next suspect would be the card, despite you trying two. CF cards are very temperamental. Try a third or fourth if you can do so without expense, just to be sure.

I took my CF card out to get photos, went to put it back in and the screen read "There is a problem with CF card. Replace the CF card." I didn't think there was a problem with the card. But I replaced...

Your CF pins in the camera are most likely bent/broken. This is a very common problem. Most repair shops will charge $150-$200 to repair this.

Hope this helps.

DS not reading game

This is usually due to either bent or dirty pins in the card slot, look inside and see if any pins are bent, if they are a new card slot is needed.

Hope this helps

Help, My son's DS wont read the cards all of a sudden. The kids began to blow them because they were intermittently reading them is this the problem. I brought a brand new game to see if it was the old...

Sounds to me like one or more of the Pins in the Card slot is bent or Broken. take a good look in there with a flash light. May just need a good Cleaning with some pipe cleaners. if the pins are Bent or broken you can Open it up and fix your self but this is something that you need to be a little more advanced to do. But Fixable.

My camera won't turn on. i've tried switching batteries, but that's not the problem. can you give me an idea of what's wrong?

Ok here is the issues with the Canon 300D digital Rebel XT model of camera. First issue bent pins or broken pins the CF card reader on this camera is Surface mounted soildered onto the bottom half of the mainboard a large ammount of disasimboly is required. After removing the mainboard next you need is a desolder rework station. to carefully remove the CF card reader from the mainboard one messup and it might be easier to replace the mainboard. Sometimes. next issue is the power issue if you have no bent pins or missing pins, and the battery door is pushing on the door closure switch and the memory card door is pusting on its door closure switch then most likely you issue is 1 of 3 fuses underneath the power switch. these switches are the size of a few grains of salt very very small.I charge 150.00 to change the fuses and 225.00 to replace the CF card reader as long as none of the traces are damaged. if they are damaged the main board would need to be replaced and it is around 250.00 + depending on the parts cost at the time. If your good at soldering go for it. if not then let the experts do it.

"no CF card"

try reformatting the card. otherwise you either have a defect in the card that does not manifest itself while not in the camera, or you have a broken pin in the cf slot. look down it to see if all the pins are upright and none missing. next, you can try another cf card. if you get the same reading then its the camera.
reset the camera by removing the main battery and reinstalling it. if that does not work, then you will likely need to send the camera for repairs. if you have broken or missing pins, it will also occasion a repair shop visit.
good luck

No Power To Canon Digital Rebel XT

Change out the CR2016 3V battery. You have to remove the rechargeable battery to get to the CR2016. Refer to the manual for proper instructions.

Had the same issue with a two year old camera. This solved my problem.

Canon Digital rebel Wont turn ON

This happened to me today. The lens drive sounded weird - like off gear. Then it froze and wouldn't turn off without taking out the batteries. Then, it would turn on. Now it's ok. What I did was remove the cf card, lens, regular battery, and the little battery that is also in the battery compartment. I let it all sit while I did other things. When I put it all back together it turned on and I had to set the date but everything worked fine.
