Certainly try it out after removing any ice if present in the freezer. The fridge usually has a safety device which gets activated if the door is kept open for a long time to prevent burnout of the compressor. Turn off the power, wait for 6 min and again switch it on. If the safety had stopped the compressor earlier, it will start now.......sodeep

Unplugged frig overnite once I plugged back in made a gurgeling sound whenever I opened the door what would that be?

Usually that is caused by a bad defrost heater thermostat or defrost timer. Failure to automatically defrost is the cause of freezing up.
If you don't feel up to doing the work yourself you should have an appliance repair shop look at it.

The gurgling is caused by water in the catch pan under the fridge. When you defrosted it some of the water made it into the drip pan (and maybe overflowed onto the floor). The fan inside the compressor area under and behind the freezer may be splashing in the excess water in the drip pan. This by itself is not a real problem since it is designed to automatically evaporate the water drained during automatic defrosting, but the excess water and potential overflow onto the floor can become a problem.

I have a GSL25JFPA BS that the frig side will not cool properly. Repalced the mother board. t stat in freezer and thermistor in frig. Freezer works fine. Damper will open when first plugged in but closes...

Unplug the refrigerator and then plug back in. Using multimeter check between J3-1 and J3-4.
Must be done within 10 seconds of starting. You should have 6 VDC. If you do replace damper, if not replace motherboard.

Refrigerator/Freezer not getting cold

Is the fan on the condenser coils spinning? (back side of unit behind the bottom access panel.)

If it is not, the heat extracted from the fresh food/freezer compartments is not being sufficiently dissipated.

As a short-term fix, you can aim a box fan (a regular ol' room/window fan) at the condenser coils.

Hotpoint Frig not freezing

Your refrigerator has a defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment and we need to place a flathead screwdriver through a small opening or plugged opening and turn the timer slowly clockwise until the refrigerator stops running. Allow it to stay in that area for 30 minute and the refrigerator should come back on. If so we will need to replace the timer part number WR9X502 if you want my help you can email me and chat here. Or visit my site and enter model and or part number into the model search feature, model number CTX14CYBBRWW Thanks, Sea Breeze Email appliancepartsse@yahoo.com Site http://servicepartstec.blogspot.com/ Site 2 http://appliancepartsandtechnicalservices.blogspot.com/

Water acculation in refridgerator.

I had a similar problem with my old hotpoint frig (top freezer, bottom frig). the defrost cycle would come on and melt the ice, but since the drain plug in the back of the freezer below the coils would eventually freeze up closed due to ice accumulation. It got to the point I had to shut down the whole unit and leave it open for around 8 hours to let it naturally melt the ice in the drain tube. I hear a gurgle sound and then a sound of water flowing, so I knew it was now draining again.

Layer of ice on the bottom of the freezer

one of two things is happening, your drain is clogged and is filling up with defrost water or your defrost heater is bad, remove freezer back panel, locate drain if frozen melt with hair dryer and use hanger or shop vac to clear it out,be careful not to melt freezer plastic, two bad heater, look at the heater to see if you have any blown out spots on it.also you can remove both leads to heater and check with omns meter,if you don''t get a reading heater is bad ,replace, hope this helps,thanks-mike

Left freezer door open-not cooling

Steph,

Your defrost timer may be stuck! This device turns the compressor off and turns on a heater to defrost everything. The timer is located in the back of the refrigerator section on most units...usually near a vent. You may see a small shaft with a 'one way' end that looks like the business end of a drill bit about 1/4 inch in diameter. If possible, turn it (probably) clockwise about half a turn. That may fix it. Wait and see what happens. If the compressor starts...you're on the right track. If not, you'll need to replace it. There are usually a few screws that you'll need to take out to access the timer.

About the ice maker...are you sure you've taken all the packing material out of the unit? Have you plugged in the motor unit? Use care when going near these items. They are mechanical, sharp and you can get injured. See if your manual is available...or online.

Frig and feezer stopped working

It sounds like the overload and relay on the compressor. If the problem isn't that then you need a compressor.

My Amana AFD2535DEW freezer problem

Sound like the compressor is having trouble starting. You can purchase a RCO810 to assist the compressor's start winding. If the unit is under 5yrs there should be some warranty (no electrical parts) left in the compressor. It will need to be replaced.
