Question about Philips 23PF9945-37 23" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

2 Answers

I bought my Philips Flat Screen TV Model No: 23PF9945/12 about 6 years ago. For the past 2-3 years, it's been switching itself off intermittently - sometimes 3-4 times a night! It's been in and out of the retailer from which I bought it several times, with no solution. I've just been putting up with it! Each time it happens, the screen goes black and there are no LED lights on - I have to switch it off at the wall plug, then on again - usually, it stays on for a couple of minutes and then goes off again and I have to repeat the connecting process again. This sometimes happens 2-4 times a night! Help!! Suzi

Suziglantz, A good TECHNICIAN should be able to pinpoint where the problem is. I suspect that as long as the unit has perfect pic and sound when it IS ON, there should be no problem for a tech to find a thermally intermittant solder joint inside the unit on some printed circuit board. Most likely place to look first would be the Power Supply board. They are called "switch-mode-power-supplys" SMPS for short. Here is what I think. Parts are soldered to the printed circuit boards at the factory. But over time the unit is subjected to large changes in temperature. You do this every time you turn "on/OFF the unit. Let's see here, 360 days x 1 ON and one OFF x 6yrs will be approx 2000 cold to hot cycles. I would think that this would not happen for at least 4000 cycles. Again, a tech type person will need to find the poorly soldered component and or the SOLID STATE component which has a thermal intermittant problem. That's about all I can recomend at this time. Do some research on the web and you will find all types of info on temperature related failures of electronic devices. Please rate this response on fixya if you feel it has been of any help to you. suziglantz, Louie12fix here. In addition to advice already posted, I would like you to do a test. It's not complicated. Beg, borrow, steal, a long extension cord (15-20 feet) and use it to supply AC power to the LCD tv from a different and remote wall outlet in some other room. If your Phillips LCD still does same ON to OFF shutdown, try still one more wall outlet only. Please us extreme caution to not have anyone trip on the extension cord!!! If your symptom/problem seems to disappear mysteriously for a day or two then it could be FAULT at that AC wall outlet where the tv has been getting power for 5 yrs and an electrician will need to correct the fault. Let me know results of this test if you decide to try it.

    louie12fix on fixya.

Hello, not positive what part you need...but it sounds like maybe the main board needs replacing. I have purchased parts many times from a company named ShopJimmy.com. I included a link to the part from their site for your model. Hope that helps!

Hi Mikshanks,

I had the same problem with my TV. It was a horizontal problem with different shades of color, and black spots. I replaced my Upper & Lower Y-buffer boards. Your Y-sus board should be okay since it still powers on the screen. You should replace the Y-buffers Upper & Lower, and it should work. I hope this helps.

best regards,
Tyler

Philips

if you bought it under one year ago then the retailer should be obliged to either replace it or repair it. I would look into this further, ask to speak to the manager or something casue when a tv switches itself off it indicates an error inside and turns itself off to prevent further damage.

Philips flat screen TV MODEL ID 19PFL5422D/27

I bought the television less than a year ago, so I called Philips Magnavox and they asked for the serial and model numbers. Next thing I know they asked for my name and address and Philips is sending a brand new television to replace it !!! The new one should arrive in about ten days. How's that for service? I'm very happy that I bought Philips and I will do so again. So don't forget to keep all the paper work that comes with your new televisions, especially Model and Serial numbers ! Thanks for asking , Debbie Hoffman

We bought a Philips TV (model : 42PF9966/79) three years ago. Intermittently we are getting a thin black horizontal line through the middle of the screen. What is causing this?

The model number you listed is bad. I think the last 2 numbers should be 37. But it sounds like a plasma tv. In that case the problem can be a bad connection from the driver board to the panel.
Take off the back of the set and reseat ALL of the ribbon cables on the far left and far right sides of the set. If this does not fix the problem, the panel is bad. This is not worth fixing. Buy a new tv.
