Question about Acer Aspire X1200-B1601A PC Desktop

1 Answer

I am trying to get my cousins acer x1200 going he put a new hard drive in it because he thought his old one stopped working it wouldn?t boot up into window it would boot up until it got to windows then stop, he told me. I put his old hard drive on my computer and it sounds like it is spinning up but my computer will not see it anywhere. Now with the new one when you try and load windows it stops with a warning to check your hard drive controllers, make sure its properly configured and for corruption. (STOP: 0x0000007B (OxF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I went into the BIOS to make sure it was selected properly because he pulled the back up battery power and would have reset the BIOS but I couldn?t see any way to change from raid to sata like mine so I don?t know if its from him pulling it or something else is wrong? I don?t know how to check the mother board other then obvious cracks or burnt circuits or check the cpu and ram I assume if it boots up to that point they would be working? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Error Stop 0x0000007B can be related to viruses, hardware failure or a device driver issue.

Lets try this :--

Step 1- Insert windows XP disk and try to get into recovery console.(Can follow instruction displayed on the
screen)
Step2 - Once you login to recovery console, run chkdsk /p followed by chkdsk /r.
Exit the command prompt after chkdsk /r completes and restart your computer and see if that works,.

Step 3 - If it doesnt, try running a repair installation with windows XP.

Step 4 - Insert the windows XP disk, press enter to continue setup followed by press R for repair.

Step 5 - Let repair installation complete and restart your machine to check status of your computer.

Hope it helps !
Thanks

Won't boot from SATA Hard Drive

Specs say it comes with a SATA hard drive. Go into the BIOS and check that it is booting to the HD as opposed to the DVD ROM? If it is, then remove the case and check the connections to the hard drive and from the hard drive to the motherboard. If they are all OK, then you need to swap out the hard drive for a new one, or at least get it tested on a system known to work. You may be able to recover data by putting the old HD into a hard disk enclosure.

You can also try booting to your windows media disk and run scandisk to the SATA HD.

A try to open my laptop but nothing ,stop to acer screen and after nothing more black i dont no waht a can do

First try a hard reset...remove battery, unplug power and hold power button for a FULL 60 seconds...NOT 59!!!! 60 or more. Now plug in and try to power on? Did it work? If so, just a hangup..it happens. Didn't work? Remove you rem and try to insert them one at a time..maybe bad ram or not properly seated. Still don't work? Try hitting ESC or f12 and select boot from hard disk...Or hit f2 repeatedly and go into SETUP and then select Load Defaults

Computer wont boot

That sounds like you have a dead hard disk drive if the hard disk drive is dead then you will need to have it replaced there is a way to check if it is dead or not, you will need to go into the bios for most it's usually the hi lighted tab when the bios comes if its dead the hard drive slot should say empty or none if it's not dead it will show the hard drive info

I have Acer 1200 Aspire. When I turn it on, it won't proceed past the initial window. It says boot failure.

It almost sounds like your primary boot disk is incorrectly selected in the BIOS. On older machines, the primary disk on the primary cable had to be the boot disk, but nowadays almost any device can be selected as boot disk. Check your BIOS setting and ensure that the hard disk partition that you have Windows installed on is selected as the first boot device. Otherwise, the system may be looking in the wrong place for the OS and giving the boot error.

Here's what I do in a case like this:
Disconnect everything but the CPU, memory, and video (and keyboard) to see if it will boot. Many time one of your components has gone bad and will keep the system from booting. My money goes on the CD/DVD.
If it does boot, add in the hard drive and then the CD/DVD. If you have 2 sticks of memory, you can try each separately.

System will not boot

If you have special data on the drive(pictures) then use the freezer trick.(I'm not gonna go into details google it) If not, then you should just reformat the hard drive using the CD that the laptop came with. Remember to go into the BIOS and change it to First Boot Selection: CDRom drive. You should be able to delete the old partition and then create a new one, then install windows. If none of this works, contact Acer.

When your new hard drive is installed does the Bios see it?
If not then you have an issue with the hard drive. Quite often this issue can be resolved by simply removing the IDE cable blowing out any dusk and reattaching it.
If that doesn't work try disabling the LAN boot option. You can also try changing the HD from ACHI to EDI, changing the Boot order and/or simply resetting the bios.
Try these and if you have no go for launch repost what you did and I'll try and help from there.
Hope this helps.

Getting a media test failure on initial boot up then windows blue screen pop up when windows tries to start. Is my video card not working properly? BIOS was reset.

probably hard drive failure.
try changing the boot order in bios.
if that doesnt work try reinstalling windows.
If windows doesn't reinstall then your hard drive is bad.

Won't Boot

It appears your hard drive's MBR is wrecked.

Buy another hard drive.
Buy an external hard drive enclosure.
Replace the current bad hard drive with the new hard drive
Use your restore CD to reinstall your OS.
Put the bad hard drive in the external hard drive enclosure and acces it after your have installed the new OS.
Hopefully the MBR on your old drive is bad but you can access the data. It may also be that the hard drive is dead and you would have to send it to a data recovery service to recover it.
