Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a snowblower which i believe was built by Murray, 8 hp engine 6 forward speeds and 2 reverse. Took the rear cover off so see if i could find out what is causinf the issue. The way it works is a round plate spins from the engine and when you pull on the lever to engage the tires the plate is pushed up to come in contact with a rubber wheel. Now in reverse the wheels move and the snow blower baxks up just fine, but in any of the forward gears the plate just spins on the interan rubber wheel when ever there is the slightest about of reistance, if i take the unit off the ground the wheels move just fine. I am assuming i have to replace either the plate or the internal wheel but am unable to find parts. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Troy built storm 2890 snowblower slow in reverse

There is an inspection pan on bottom of snow blower remove the 2 or 4 bolts and drop pan
inside you will see an aluminum wheel (drive wheel) also a rubber faced wheel whitch runs on the aluminum wheel at a right angle (like a needle runs on a record on a record player.
Clean plate and rubber wheel using brake clean to degrease surface .
Also there is an adjustment to move the rubber wheel farther to the left for more reverse speed but in doing that you might lose top speed forward.

there is a drive belt that is either broken or off inside the tractors frame. You will need to remove the cover, between the seat and steering will, where you shift, I believe it is like four bolts/screws. You can purchase a new belt at an home improvement, wally world, a parts store. Hope this helps Tim

Assuming you have checked the main drive belt and it is snug, I think you have a problem with the hydrostatic drive. These are replaced with used or new, ain't cheap either way.
