our dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum.
Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance. this could be a faulty moisture sensor. try running the dryer in a timed dry mode and see what happens.also be sure to make sure all the duct work is free and clear and that the lint filter is clean
When you have smoke coming from a dryer, the most likely cause is lint on the element. Clean the element, clean the lint trap filter, (AFTER EACH AND EVERY LOAD), and make sure your vent is clear, free from lint and moisture.
I'll take a stab that you use dryer softener sheets. These will deposit a coating on the two metal sensor bars (about 4 inches long, very near the lint filter inside the drum) which prevents the sensor from "seeing" that the clothes are still wet, so the dryer jumps to the cool down portion of the cycle. Clean the metal bars off and it should work again. (note: the bars are not in the cycle if you choose time dry instead of using the automatic cycles)
