Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Canon PIXMA MP780 "cannot print because printer head overheated"

My Canon PIXMA MP780 printer, which was working perfectly, suddenly stopped working. It can no longer print or photocopy. This happened after a thunderstorm when I was talking on the phone and my computer was on. I lost that phone call during the storm. Since my internet, TV and phone service are all linked, could the problem with the printer be connected to the thunderstorm? When I try to print, the printer shoots out blank sheets of paper. The printer displays error message #336 and "cart. incorrect". I've checked the ink cartidges, taken them out and put them back in, and they seem no different from usual. When I try to print I see in the the printing window on my computer the message "cannot print because printer head overheated". I tried unplugging the printer for 24 hours to let it "cool off", but this did not help. I still get the "overheated" message. Is my printer fried?

SOURCE: canon pixma ip90 printer

if your printer is flashing 4 orange and then back to green repeatedly - i found a solution to it for my ip90v - i opened the printer and checked the right hand side cogs - carefully turn them and you may see that some stray paper jam debris is blocking the cleaning unit from returning to its home in the bottom front of the printer - carefully remove it and replace the casing - turn on and with any luck you will have a dully functioning ip90 like i did.

Hope it helps some others out

SOURCE: The 3eBK head stopped printing.

Try below some steps which might help you resolve the problem.

Print Head Cleaning / Head Refreshing If the printed Nozzle Check Pattern is broken, missing, or a specific color is not printed, clean the print head.

  1. Press the <Menu> button on the printers operation panel repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears in the LCD.
  2. Press the left [<] or right [>] arrow buttons to select the cleaning setting you want. Select [HEAD CLEANING] or [HEAD REFRESHING] for deep print head cleaning.

Note: [HEAD REFRESHING] uses more ink than [HEAD CLEANING], so perform [HEAD REFRESHING] only when necessary.
  3. Press the <OK> button.
  4. Print a Nozzle Check Pattern and perform at least two Head Refreshings if the pattern is not correct.
If this does not help, try removing the print head and then install it again. Once place, dont forget to aligh the head. Following are the steps:

Reseat Print Head Reseating the print head is seldomly needed to be done.
  1. Press the Open Button (1) to open the Paper Output Tray (2).

  9. Close the Inner Cover 2.
  10. Close the Inner Cover 1.
  11. Pull the Scanning Unit Lever towards you to close the Scanning Unit.
  12. Align the print head position after the print head is installed. You can align the print head position either automatically or manually. When automatic alignment does not work well, align the print head position manually.
Automatically Aligning The Print Head Position:
  1. Load A4-or letter-size plain paper in the paper support tray. Auto alignment cannot be performed when the Feed Switch is set to [CASSETTE].
  2. Press <Menu> repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears.
  3. Press left or right arrow to select [AUTO HEAD ALIGN].
  4. Press <OK>. The print head position alignment pattern prints.

  1. Load A4- or letter-size plain paper in the paper support or cassette.
  2. Select the paper source with <Feed Switch> button.
  3. Press <Menu> repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears.

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP190 'not responding'

I was able to print a few documents and after that I just changed the b/w cartridge and not the colour one. I have used the printer on very few occasions, and when I tired to print again. On my computer it says 'looking for printer'. Yes when I check my systems on my computer its all there. Do both cartridges have to be changed in order for the printer to work?

Most likely the print heads are dirty and need to be clean. The user manual for the Canon should tell you how to do that, but in case you don't have the manual, you can get it here: http://goo.gl/iIylF

Print head overheat

You can buy a new printhead, if that is the problem. did you try printing after the machine cooled down?
Try going on eBay and search for an MP780 printhead...it should cost about $50-60 or about $60-85 elsewhere, check Canon too.
Possibly, a cleaning kit might unclog anything plugged, though a electrical problem is probably fixed only with a new head. New heads snap in to the printer...Good Luck!

Colours have suddenly become washed out and lime green.

I read a lot of complicated stuff about cleaning the print head after my similar problem this week. Finally I found an old, soft toothlbrush, gave it a very light spray with windex and lightly brushed the magenta print head. I put the cannon cartridge back in and everything is printing perfect again. This worked for me, good luck to l you.
