Question about Dryers

1 Answer

The dryer is not spinning. Heat is coming out and the light is on when I open the door. I lifted the top of the dryer open and the belt is not broken. What could be the problem? Is it something I can fix?

    It is a whirlpool dryer
    model # LER7646EQ1
    serial # MH1116156

Do you have a diagram of the innards of a dryer so I can check the areas you are referring to. I have the back of the dryer open and the top up. I'm going to check out what I can now and I'll be back to see if you had a chance to respond.

    Many thanks.

Without a model number, or even a brand name, the advice has to be very general:
Check the drum supports to make sure they are not worn, causing the drum to drag on the felt seals, and check the motor to make sure the mounting is secure, and not allowing the belt to slip. Make sure belt is not in a groove in the drum, which would in effect cause the belt to be looser than it should, and check the belt tensioning pully to make sure the belt has not come off the pulley and is on the shaft, or that the pulley's center is not worn out. (also causing more slack in the belt, and thus slippage)

Dcvh660ghbb dryer wont heat

First check to see that the exhaust venting line is clear (not full of lint) as well as the path in the dryer to the line. This is the most common cause of no heat.
Second set the knob to heat turn on dryer with the lights off and the door open but the "open door" switch so that it still rotates with the door open. Look at the back of the rotating drum for a orange/red glow behind the drum (the heater coils). If there is no glow the heater coils are probably broken.
As the dryers age, the amount of thermal cycles the heater elements go through until the point when the coil wire breaks. There usually two heater coils behind the rotating drum (one hotter than the other and when combined the hottest heat temperature setting. You will need to pop open the top where you see the belt that turns the drum. The belt is removed from the spring loaded tensioner pulley at the base of the dryer. Then you can lift the drum out to get to the heater coils. Since no heat, both should be broken and will require replacement.

Kenmore 96272100 won't spin, but heat comes on....

Broken belt most likely. I looked at your model number and your belt number is 341241. Your actual model number with prefix is:
110.96272100When ordering parts you always add the 110. Anyway to replace the belt you first remove the filter. Then you must remove the 2 screws that hold the filter housing to the top because you gotta raise the top. To raise it you grab the dryers back side right behind each hinge and pull the whole top forward a bit while lifting on the front of the top to release the front portion and rotate it to the back. Then you will need a small screwdriver to assist in unplugging the door switch. Then remove 2 screw holding the front on and LIFT up the front to keep from damaging the bottom clips which are flimsy. Once the front is out of your way get the drum out and inspect the rollers. You can lube them with zoomspout oil, it is safe for appliances.

No high heat in dryer

This type of dryer has 2 rows of elements. If one is out then you will not have high heat.

Basically to get into ge dryers your start by popping the top then removing the front. Then the drum comes out.

My daughter put a large load of clothes in the dryer before the washer had put them through the spin cycle so they were still very wet. Now the dryer won't run. It starts to warm up but it does not tumble....

sounds like a belt issue. Unplug Dryer and you will need to open the door of the dryer, take off the four screws which hold the hinges on, lift up and out. On the other side there are two plastic fillers(this is if you want to change the door to the open from the other side) take those four screws out. Front panel lifts off, there are screws in the top sides, once removed top will lift up, then it is just a matter of inspecting the belt. If need be the sides can be removed, also. Good Luck Tim

Just in case the belt did break, here is a website that shows how it should look:

It doesn't heat up and it's not the breaker.

may be heater coil, located inside machine on back right side. unplug dryer, open dryer door and remove screws, with a flat tip screw drive gently pry on each top corner till it pops off, gently move panel forward and disconnect door switch. sit panel aside, lift top all the way up it is clipped on the back so it will not fall off. look to the back and right and the coil looks like a spring, it is easy to change, all you need to do is will the make and model call a appliance store and they can tell the price for a new one. good luck tim

My tumble dryer only spins with a helping hand once it goes its fine but does not spin on its own until i spin it manually to get it going then shut door quick

sounds as though the belt or maybe one of the rollers is wearing out. You will need to unplug the machine, open the dryer door and remove the screws, take a flat tip screw driver and pry gently on the top corners(as there are clips, that are connected to the top of the dryer) gently move the front panel forward and disconnect the door switch, sit panel aside, lift up on top lid of dryer(it has clips on the back so it will not fall off) and look at the belt and pulleys, note the routing of the belt, the rollers/coasters are on the back wall of the dryer, you will need to take belt off and lift up and out on the drum, sit drum aside and look at the rollers they should be round and spin freely. Hope this helped tim

My dryer has stopped spinning. the heat still works, but no tumbling. is it worth fixing?

i would have to say yes
its probaly the belt
take off the door hings screws, and the two opposite
lift the door and remove
grab the two slim spots on the sides and pull forward, you will see two 5/16 screws holding down the lid dogs
remove thoose and lift the top
if you dont see the belt on the tumbler
or if you do try to lift it out

Kenmore Performa PYE2300: Drum won't turn anymore. Heat works and motor works-think it is a belt issue...silly question...how in the world do you get the back off of the dryer????

Hello,
I beleive the dryer has to come off from front to get to belt open door and se if screws in there anywhere, where the top off cover should be able to pry open the top on each side and it lifts up

Kenmore Series 80 Dryer. Heats doesn't spin clothing. Imagine its a belt or spin motor. Need a schematic

No need for a schematic, there are two kenmore dryer belts, 'full size' or 'apartment size', if it is a belt you will be able to here the motor racing unloaded, turn heat to cold before testing, dont want to blow a thermal fuse.

Kenmore dryer comes apart from the front,
  • UNPLUG dryer 220V is not fun
  • remove the lint screen
  • remove the screws under the lint screen holding the case top to the screen holder
  • with a putty knife or other blunt blade release the catches at the front corners of the top and raise top
  • remove screws holding front of case on, from inside the dryer
  • remove door switch cables
  • lift front of case off and set aside,
  • can reach motor, belt, felts and rollers.
  • broken belt will be obvious, lying on the floor
If belt is broken, examine rollers and felt bearings for wear, stuck rollers or no felt left, is the most common cause of belts breaking, extra tension is required to spin the drum, If damaged replace them, they are cheap and easy to do, and it woud be no fun if another belt broke quickly

reasemble after repair in reverse order.
