Question about Samsung HCN4226W 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

2 Answers

Convergence issues? I have an HCN4226W. Recently, a red arc appeared along the left side of the screen. The red color also appears shifted to the right creating a shadow along all objects on the screen. I had the same problem 2 yrs ago and the tech replaced a part which had something to do with convergence. Any idea what that part might be and if I can replace it myself? It took the guy 5 minutes to replace it so I figured it couldn't be too hard. Would appreciate any help!!!

Most likely the convergence board.
Ordered complete convergence board, ask samsung for part number Convergence AMP PCB $108.44, from www.samsungparts.com
or could send it in to ptscorp.com for repair.

Pictur is fuzzy and green asround all charactures

If the Green appears to be " Glowing" around objects and the color tints are all wrong then its most likely a CRT coolant issue. If the picture appears as 3D with a possible arc in the screen then you can assume its a convergence issue.

well..it's simple really...yellow is from a degrading video unit and system board..so, you'll find that it's high time for a major service situation.

Panasonic pt-47wx53g red is out of convergence range

Have you moved the TV recently?, if so the red can(Red source) in the back bottom of the TV may have physically shifted in its holder, this is common when a rear projection tv is moved, jostled. Take the back off, look at the three cans,Red, Blue, Green, see if they all look like they are nested the same, bet the red is shifted a little.Good Luck with it!

I just received a Hitachi 50" projection Tv from a friend. He was the original owner and it appears after 8 years the picture quality went bad. After spending some time with the operating manual it appears...

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Convergence ic

You will need to replace your convergence IC's. They are located on the D Board, left side board that is mounted flat on the bottom. They are on the two large heat sinks you can see at the back of the tv. Get the part numbers off those and order some new ones along with thermal grease. You'll need a good desoldering gun or braid and a good solding pencil. Buy thin soldering not the thick stuff. Radio Shack is a good place to get irons and solder for the job.

Convergence problem?

The convergence anp ICs are usually what go bad in that unit. They are two ICs both are STK392-040 and they are at board location ICZ103 and IZC103 on the Sub Board attached to large heat sinks. You can get replacements with free installation instructions and free on line tech support at the following link.

My blue color is off...HCN4226W.

If the blue is shifted away from the rest of the picture and maybe bowed then try the manual convergence adjustment. My guess is the red will move but the blue won't. If I'm correct call a tech unless you are a skilled solderer, then replace the large STK amps in the Convergence circuit and check all of the resistors in the circuit. Good Luck.

Convergence problem?

That board, P/N Bp94-00155a should fix the problem and be fairly easy to replace. Make sure you unplug the TV before starting the repair though. Duh!
