Remove lower grill and disconnect the water line going through the freezerIn door water does not work but still makes ice. - 2.gif door hinge. Usually it is a push lock fitting, which requires you to push the ring2.gif on the end of the fitting toward the center of the fitting while pulling (not hard) on the plastic tube. Now place a pan under the separated plastic hose and try the water dispenser. If water comes out, your problem is a frozen water line in the freezer door. A warmer freezer temp may help, or you can order and install a WR49X101073 water tube heater2.gif. (the heater may take 24 hours to thaw the line, but I have used it successfully several times. Cost about $50) If no water comes out the separated tube when you try to dispense water, reconnect the tube at the hinge by pushing the plastic line back into the fitting. Now, at the back of the refrig., disconnect the water line going from the water valve to the fresh foods compartment. Try to dispense water. No water at valve outlet = bad valve. Water dispensed from valve now = frozIn door water does not work but still makes ice. - 2.gif rel='nofollow' href="http://www.fixya.com/support/r2173539-ge_hotpoint_s_xs_refrig_will_not#">water filter2.gif or water line at back bottom of fresh foods compartment. (make sure you disconnect the right tube. If in doubt, disconnect them both, just get them back correctly so your icemaker continues to work) Send me additional comments if needed. Don't rate before you try all the steps.

Comment by MNTECH, Sorry, didn't notice that I put an extra zero in the part number. It should be a WR49X10173

Ice maker not working

Ice makers have a heating element to thaw the inlet and allow water to flow into them perhaps the heater is broken and it can't get water to make ice. Check the hopper to be sure it has ice in it. If it does check it for obstructions from the hopper to the door.

I just connected the ice maker water line to the unit. The Frig has electrical power and ice is making. My problem is that the controls at the front of the Frig is not working. I cannot dispense the ice...

Without a model number here how they usually operate. The DOOR / LIGHT switch disables water and ice in door functions. I.e. it is not supposed to operate with the door open. If the switch is open... i.e the light is not working door open, (Switch has 2 functions Light and Water / ive in door operation) Then the control panel / water / ice in door will all not work either. It is possible for the light to work while the CP / H2o / Ice do not work. Usually if a door switch fails the light stops working also. It is not always the case.

Try holding to door switch plunger depressed and see if your CP works and water in door work. DO NOT try ice in door as you can damage things.

If you respond with a model number and brand; I will see what I can dig up for you use while troubleshooting your unit. Expect to see parts data also.

Not making ice after changing filter.

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

A new filter can take several cycles of the ice maker to fill the filter up with water before. The average filter is around 30 oz and the average ice maker fill cycle is 3.2 oz. The new filter did not have any water in it. The water in the door has a resercoir so the air in the filter will still make the water work until you get air. Drain abour 3 tall glasses from the water in door. The ice maker should then work properly. The filter filters water for water in door (inside) and the ice maker so if you have water inside the door you should have ice UNLESS one of the inlet water valve solenoids has failed. Also make sure the Freezer door / light switch functions properly. The door switch is supposed to stop water and ice functions with the door open.

I would like to know if it starts making ice.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Ice-maker does not work. water valve seems to be working.

There are 3 things that can prevent an ice maker from not working.
1- Temperature of freezzer- Temp must be below 6 degrees on most ice makers.
2- Water inlet valve- Depending on how your ice maker cycles it calls for water for 7.2 seconds. If you have ice and water though the door you have a dual valve and the ice maker selinoid ine the inlet may be bad. Also make sure water is getting to valve. Just because water is coming through the door does not mean water is entering fridge. There is a reservoir in fringe that holds around 3 gallons of water that can still make water come out the door without water entering fridge.
3- Faulty Ice maker- over time the winding and other components can get worn out and fail.

First check the temperature in the freezer.
Next check the inlet valve. To do this you need to remove the hose going from the inlet valve to ice maker and switch with the hose leading to door. Push the actuator in the door to call for water and see if water enters the ice maker. If it does inlet is good. Replace Icemaker. If not replace inlet valve. There may be a problem with the icemaker still but wont know until inlet is fixed.

The water line was frozen (no ice being made and no water available in the door), so I took everything out of the fridge and freezer, let it all defrost, plugged it back in, now I have water in the door,...

Grab a blow dryer and aim it at the water tube that supplies water to your ice maker. More then likely it is frozen with ice and will need further melting to clear it out so that your ice maker will work again

Ice maker doesn't make ice anymore. The water works and dispenser levers on the door work for both ice (use store bought ice dumped into tray) and water. I replaced the filter after it quit making ice. Not...

you've already done the first thing i suggest, and that is to change the water filter. But if you still cant get ice made, you have a problem with either your ice maker or your water valve, or an electrical issue in the ice maker system.

We have a Hotpoint side by side fridge. It always makes

check the door in the dispenser if moisture is condensing and freezing so that the door won't open try manually popping the door open just before you attempt to dispense ice, maybe you'll get lucky, otherwise your going to have to get a technician to come and check the micro-switch for the dispenser

Hooked up water to frig and got water in door but no water to icemaker. Any ideas?

Make sure the lever is down on the ice maker . Also , can pour about 2/3 cup of water into ice maker , so it will freeze and start the cycle . Otherwise , wait , and when the ice maker gets cold enough , it will cycle on its on to start the ice making procedure . If you get water to the door , then it's connected properly , and water will go to the ice maker , if the water valve and ice maker are in working order .

Kenmore Ice Maker

Sounds like a water valve problem to me. Force the ice maker to cycle. (turn it off and let it get cold for at least an hour then turn it back on). Test for voltage on the ice maker side of the valve. The valve is usually in the back near the floor. Just follow the water line. Another solution. switch the wires on the water valve. then try the water dispenser and see if it makes the ice maker fill up. See if when the ice maker cycles water comes out the door. If the ice maker causes water in the door , replace the valve, If door switch causes ice maker to fill up replace ice maker again.
