Question about Soyo P4X400 Dragon Lite (P4X400DRAGNLITE) Motherboard

Wires for USB go to which MoBo pins?

I need to connect the front panel USB jacks to the motherboard - there are two sets of four wires each, terminated with single-pin connectors. I need to connect them to the motherboard USB 2.0 connections, but they are 9-pin, and I don't know which wire to connect to each pin! Can anyone help?

There is two sets of 4 pin on each with an xtra ground you may not use.
Here is the link for your motherboard manual which shows the connections.
i.e you can connect your two sets of 4 wires to usb 1 or split them i.e 1 set of 4 on usb 1 and 1 set of 4 on usb 2.

There are two USB headers on the motherboard for the Front Panel,
JUSB1 and JUSB2. (Junction USB 1 and Junction USB 2)

Looking along the bottom of the motherboard, FROM the Right going towards the Left;

JFP1 header; (Front Panel main wires)
Header with 4 pins on the Top row, and 5 pins on the Bottom row.

JFP2 header; (Dual color Power On LED, and Speaker)
Header with 4 pins on the Top row, {Speaker}, and 3 pins on the Bottom row.

JUSB2 header.

JUSB1 header.

EACH USB header will support TWO USB ports in the Front Panel.
JUSB1 supports two,
JUSB2 supports two.

For each USB header there are 5 pins across the Top, 4 pins across the Bottom.
The pins are numbered EVEN across the Top, and ODD across the Bottom.

Starting from the LEFT side going across to the RIGHT side;
on the TOP row for JUSB2 and JUSB1;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10.

Starting from the LEFT side going across to the RIGHT side;
on the BOTTOM row for JUSB1 and JUSB2;
Pins 1, 3, 5, and 7. There is NO pin 9.

A) Pin 2 is VCC
B) Pin 4 is USB1-
C) Pin 6 is USB1+
D) Pin 8 is Ground

E) Pin 10 is USBOC

Pin 10 is N/C -> Not Connected.
It is there, and Pin 9 is not there, to key which way a connector can go on. Only ONE way.

F) Pin 1 is VCC
G) Pin 3 is USB0-
H) Pin 5 is USB0+
I) Pin 7 is Ground

There is NO pin 9.

(The USB technology used is USB 2.0)

Let's read together,
Under - USB pinout signals;

"USB is a serial bus. It uses 4 shielded wires: two for power (+5v & GND) and two for differential data signals (labeled as D+ and D- in pinout). NRZI (Non Return to Zero Invert) encoding scheme used to send data with a sync field to synchronise the host, and receiver clocks. In USB data cable Data+ and Data- signals are transmitted on a twisted pair. No termination needed. Half-duplex differential signaling helps to combat the effects of electromagnetic noise on longer lines. Contrary to popular belief, D+ and D- operate together; they are not separate simplex connections."

See the USB examples in the link above, where it labels the contact pins?
The MALE connectors are shown on the Left side.
The FEMALE connectors are shown on the Right side.

Your USB ports will be FEMALE, on the Front Panel.
They are also the A style. USB A style. The Top example to the Right.

Just noting the following in case for some reason, the wires coming from those contact pins in the female USB connector, are not color coded correctly;

Even after you have the wires sorted out, as to which contact pins they go to, DOUBLE-check again. Do NOT just go by the color code of the wires.
Why?

You do NOT want to accidentally connect the +5 Volts (VCC), to the Ground!

Explaining further;
You connect the VCC wire, (Red), of the USB port in the Front Panel, to the Ground pin on the USB header on the motherboard.

(Which means the Ground wire of the USB port, (Black), will probably also be connected to the VCC pin, on the USB header of the motherboard)

Zzzzzzap! There goes your front USB ports. Both USB front panel headers on the motherboard, will be DONE!

Make sure!

Going on;
1) VCC or Vcc, goes back relating to Transistor technology.
Just think of it as the Positive, or power wire.
It is.
It is 5 Volts DC.

2) GND is Ground. It's a DC circuit, and you have a Positive, and a Negative, or Ground.

3) USB1-
That is -> Data-

USB0 is for one USB port in the Front Panel.
USB1 is for another USB port in the Front Panel.

[ Each USB header on the motherboard can be connected, to TWO USB ports on the Front Panel.
Therefore for the two JUSB1 and JUSB2, you can connect Four USB ports in the Front Panel ]

Data- on one USB port in the Front Panel, goes to USB0-

Data- on the other USB port in the Front Panel, goes to USB1-

4) Data+
Same thing.
Data+ on one of the USB ports in the Front Panel, goes to USB0+
Data+ on the other USB port in the Front Panel, goes to USB1+

EACH side of JUSB1 and JUSB2, will support one USB port on the Front Panel.
Two sides per JUSB1 and JUSB2 = 4 USB ports on the Front Panel.

I want to get a usb 3.0 hub and plug it to the asus p8p67 pro on the middle of the mother board. What kind of connection is it?

The header bus above is for the USB Front Panel interface:

This is included in many of the various flavors of the MoBo. If you're looking to use the MoBo connector to supply something other than this Front Panel interface, you're going to need to obtain the pinout of the jack on the motherboard and compare it to the signals required by your USB 3.0 device. The one from Asus is simply gathers the wires and forms them in a single shell - then keys the shell to prevent reverse insertion.

Think of what you have to do as the way USB 2.0 headers are provided on MoBo and the way PC cases have USB jacks built in. The USB header isn't standard; some have 9 pins - some even have 10! They can't seem to get on the same page as to how many pins are needed. The location of the signals on the header are probably different from brand to brand, too. So, the case manufacturers break up all the individual wires and label the signal so that YOU can check the MoBo manual and plug each one in to the correct pin.

The Compaq Presario SR1703WM desktop computer, uses an Asus A9AE-LE motherboard.

1) I would like to start with the Front Panel wires.
The Front panel, is the plastic front on your computer tower, where the Power On button, Power On LED, and so on is located.

The Front Panel header is the connector on the motherboard, where the cables, (Wires), from the Front Panel connect to.

Looking at the HP Support link above, I would like you to scroll down the page to the illustration of the motherboard, and the photo of the motherboard under the illustration.

Looking at the illustration observe the bottom Right corner.
F_PANEL1 indicates the Front Panel header.

Note there are 4 pins going across the Top, and 5 pins going across the Bottom.

Looking inside your computer, the motherboard will be located in a different position, compared to the illustration.

The Front Panel header will be located Vertically, (Up, and down)

Note that there is a twisted pair of Black, and Red wires.
These wires form the Power On cable.
They come directly from the Power on switch.

There is a twisted pair of Yellow, and Black wires.
These wires form the Harddrive Activity LED light cable.
(HDD)
When the harddrive is active, this LED flashes.

There is a twisted pair of Green, and Black wires.
These wires form the Power On LED light cable.

The wires, (Cables), should be in one Black connector.

Looking at the Front Panel header in your computer, align the Black plastic connector's socket holes, with the pins sticking up out of the Front Panel header, on the motherboard.

Note that the Front Panel header is rectangular in shape. There is 1 pin missing.
The Black connector coming from the Front Panel of the computer, has one socket hole blocked off, to match.

Align the four socket holes in the Black connector, to match the 4 pins sticking up out of the Front Panel header, on the motherboard.

The other 5 socket holes in the Black connector, will match up to the 5 pins sticking up, automatically.

Use care, and you may need a bright light to assist.
These pins can be bent quite easily.
(Also watch your fingers, as the ends of the pins are S-H-A-R-P!)

2) Where it states CLRTC (CLPWD under it), is the Clear CMOS jumper.
Suggest you leave it alone.

3) Where it states F_ USB1, and F_USB2, is where the USB cables from the front of the computer connect to.

(The USB ports on the front of the computer's Front Panel.
F_USB1, and F_USB2 headers on the motherboard, are shown on the illustration to the Left, of the Front Panel header. F_PANEL1)

The plastic connector on a USB cable coming from the Front Panel, has an orientation just like the Front Panel header cable does.

There is 1 pin missing on the USB header on the motherboard.
There is a blocked socket hole in the USB cable's connector.
Align the connector to match the pins.

Doesn't matter which USB cable from the Front Panel, that you connect to the USB headers on the motherboard.
BIOS will find them, and assign an IRQ to each, once you turn the computer on.

All you will see at a first glance is a series of thick Gray insulated cables, coming from the Front Panel of your computer.

If you follow the cables by eye, you can see where the USB cables are connected to the back of the USB ports, on the Front Panel.

You may, or may not, have to remove the Front Panel to see more clearly.

Computer case open, look inside towards the Front Panel.
There is a Green plastic tab towards the Top.

This locking tab is depressed Towards the Inside of the computer, to START to unlock the Front Panel.

Towards the bottom in the same plane, is a Black locking tab. This tab is pulled Towards the Outside of the computer.
There is another Black plastic tab on the opposite side.

At the Bottom are two more Black plastic locking tabs. These are depressed down, towards the Bottom of the computer case.
One on one side, one on the opposite side.

Start by depressing the plastic Green tab, and gently easing the Top of the Front Panel, slightly out.
Then go to the two Black plastic locking tabs located towards the Middle, and depress them.

Ease the top of the Front Panel out a little more.
Finally go to the two Black plastic locking tabs located at the Bottom, and depress them.
Ease the Front Panel off.

(NOTE*
Your computer's Front Panel may not have locking tabs located at the bottom.
Just locking tabs located up from the bottom, more towards the middle)

It's no picnic for your first time, but once you have done it, it becomes easy. (Ummm, Easier!)

4) The Firewire (a1394) cable on the Front Panel, connects to the F_1394 header on the motherboard.
In the motherboard illustration the F_1394 header is located to the Left, of PCI2

what wires are you referencing?
this is a SATA MOBO with 24 pin power and 4 pin CPU. the wires to front of case are labeled on wire end and MOBO Blue sata is usually primary to Hard drive but should be labled 1,2,3,4. wires in back are USB Keyboar & mouse, lan and speaker

USB power connector missing


The USB connections are in groups of 4 and 5 pins in parallel, with one pin missing at one end. The connector goes on, with its first pin(normally red) at the end that has both pins.

Audio deosn't work on mobo


Hi Chris, the problem can be one of two issues. If the sound jack located at the back of the PC did function at the same time as the front case sound jack. Than the problem is the jack it's self is bad. (Back of PC). Someone had to hook up the front mic & sound jack to the motherboard. So disconnecting the front sound & mic may give you rear sound & mic.
Turn to page 2-29 in you're user manual for the Asus M2N-SLI. The pic shown is the default setting for the front case audio & mic. (What you do see are the two jumpers connected). So disconnect any connector & place a jumper over pins 9 & 10, (last two pins at the right of the two rows of pins). Place another jumper over pins 5 & 6.
Pin 1 is the first pin on the left bottom row (MIC2). Pin 2 is the first pin, left edge top row (AGND). Pin 8 is not installed but you still count its spot as if there was a pin. (This is how the board was setup from factory). Once you fix this you should regain sound & mic function at the rear of the PC. To fine tune the audio run the Asus sound effect manager. If you installed this software, (Recommended). If it’s not by you're clock than it’s in control panel.

Pluging in extra usb ports/Mic and headphone jacks from the tower


Answer me this. You're case is an Antec tower? The motherboard is the Asus P4P800 SE ? Is this correct?
If you have you're manual you can see what goes where on the board for front panel connector page. 2-31. (This diagram shows you how to connect the front mic & speaker).
To connect the Antec's front USB ports plug the case USB front connectors onto USB56 & USB78 shown on page. 2-30. Most case wires are already set within their USB connectors & the Antec's front USB connector should fit right on the mother board's pin's. Trying to set up front usb ports on asus p4p800se


Find usb pin in the boad " USB1 & USB 2" You can see five pins in the board composed of two lines. connect the cable in the line composed of four pins. from left. VCC, Data-2 , Data+2, grnd2. After connecting try a Usb mouse if the USB mouse function well then connection is correct.
