Question about Dell Latitude D800 Notebook

Need help with REPAIRING Western Digital Passport...please!!!!!

Hello All! I have a small/huge problem and I think your guidance and advice may be the answer to my prayers. My ex got pissed one day and decided to throw my hard drive across the room during his temper tantrum. Needless to say, when it was no longer airborne, it landed on my tile instead of my carpet. Though it didnt shatter it knocked something loose inside of it....SO, being the determined, impatient, Obsessive-Compulsive female that I am, I started taking the damn thing apart in an effort to fix it or at least SEE what was "catching" underneath the back metal panel that was causing it to make the noise it was making when I would plug it into the USB slot on my computer. Yada yada...long story short, I tried plugging it into computer using different USB cords, tried plugging it into different PORTS and even tried plugging it into my other computer here at home and all of IT'S! Didnt work! That is why I resorted to taking the thing apart. I made sure not to damage anything when I removed the metal back of the drive from the chip board. Insided I found the two round platters that resemble mini CD's and removed them. Here is the part I need help on. The damaged hard drive was a WESTERN DIGITAL 250G PASSPORT....but I have another external drive (UNDAMAGED) thats exactly the same but it is a WESTERN DIGITAL 500G PASSPORT. SO...I am wondering if transfer all of my stored music/files and info that is on the UNDAMAGED 500G passport onto my desktop (serving as a 2 backup), then open IT up and remove IT'S two little round CD's ( I did to the broken 250G)...will I be able to "transplant" the mini CD'S that I salvaged from the DAMAGED 250G (TEMPORARILY) basically using the undamaged 500G Passport's shell/casing as a temporary vessle so I can save the information from the 250G to my computer? Please let me know what I should do...I'm desperately needing to salvage all of the files/invoices from the 250G. I appreciate anyone who is taking the time to read this and PRAY TO GOD someone can help!

Thanks again so much and have an awesome day! =)

Those little disks are susceptible to damage by minute pieces of dust; they are assembled in clean rooms. I advise against your plan. The electronics in the 500GB drive will be looking for a 500GB capacity.

Do I need a disc to install

This is a external hard drive and no need for you to install any software to a computer in order for it to work , this is a plug and play device you just need to wait for the computer to recognize it after you plug it to a USB port and once its recognize its ready to use.

I accidentally droppped my brand new 320gb WD Passport now it isn't working it lights up & it has a tick sound then stops spinning...pls help.. :(

Most likely you have damaged the actual harddrive, the ticking sound is NOT A GOOD HARDDRIVE SOUND! Contact western digital and tell them that your NEW harddrive is making this sound out of the box DO NOT MENTION DROPPING IT. They should RMA it as long as you really did just buy it.

When I plug in my 320GB My Passport Western

It seems your HDs left over portion which is not showing is not formatted for the particular OS in which you are trying to copy. It is advised to backup your HD contents and format the HD with the OS from which you want to take data in the same FAT system which that OS is using.

Need help to locate Western Digital Passport 160GB External Drive

Could be a hard drive logic board issue since the computer bios recognizes the drive but the computer operating system does not. Not good.

wiggle the cable connected to the drive gently up and down and side to side

I have the same problem with one of my drives, by doing the above it works. I think the connector inside "the conatcts" don't make good contact with the cable

thanks for rating
