Noma a/c cq120 makes noise in compressor area and casing is hot to touch. Is compressor going? Is it worth to repair or buy new. I'm guessing this unit is 4 years old or more


Possible Causes There are several reasons for a compressor to run too hot, including high compression ratio, high return gas temperatures, and lack of external cooling.High compression ratios are the result of either lower than normal suction pressures or higher than normal discharge pressures. Changes in suction pressure will affect the compression ratio more rapidly than changes in the discharge pressure. For this reason, it is important to keep the suction pressure at its highest possible value.
Causes of low suction pressure can include incorrect sizing of components, misadjusted or defective metering devices (TXVs), loss of refrigerant charge, plugged driers or strainers, and excessive suction line pressure drop.
Although not as sensitive to change as the suction pressure, the discharge pressure can still greatly affect the compression ratio. Keeping the discharge pressure within normal operating conditions is still important.
Causes of high discharge pressure can include dirty condensing coils, undersized discharge line, a blockage or recirculation of condenser air, erratic condenser fan operation, refrigerant overcharge, noncondensibles in the system, and an undersized condenser.
Many larger refrigeration systems with electronic controllers will automatically monitor the temperature of the discharge line and will send out an alarm to alert the owner or service contractor of a potential problem. Regardless of how the discharge line temperature is monitored, it should always be checked as part of any service to a refrigeration system.
A technician should also check the discharge line temperature within 6 inches from the outlet of the compressor. Any temperature above 225 degrees should be investigated and the cause found and repaired.

If the compressor on this case does not start install a set of gauges on unit and make sure pressures for 404a are correct for your ambient temp. at 70F you should have around 155psi on suction and discharge. if pressures are good and no power from relay on emerson board then remove bottom shelves from unit exposing evap fan/txv/coil. you will find a high pressure switch and a low pressure switch. cut wiring to both switchs and ohm them out to make sure they are closed. if one or more is open and your pressures are okay replace the switch. There are dilcores on switches so it can be done with out reclaiming if you are quick. if high pressure switch is faulty and does not open during hot pull downs the unit may trip on internal relief in compressor. 404a will run very high temp and pressure and may shut down up to 5/6 times on hps before unit suction and discharge come down. make sure condenser coil is very clean. wash with hot water and degresser if needed.
General maintence should be carried out on these units often such as cleaning the condenser. cleaning condenser pan and float check proper operation **** all dirt from pan and float with shop vac and wipe up all sluge from heater elements. remove bottom shelves to the evap area and vacuum any loose particals from inside and make sure drain is clear.
if you have product in case that is not keeping cool you may have to remove all shelves and remove back wall and vacuum dust from grates in back to get good air flow.

You cannot use a high pressure nozzle and discharge chemical. You have to use the low pressure cleaning nozzle.

Air conditioner keeps turning off


Never heard of that brand. These appliances are designed to shut down and protect themselves when there are certain problems. High head (discharge) pressure (dirty or obstructed condenser coils) or low refrigerant (Freon) charge (leak anywhere in the sealed system) will cause the unit to shut down. Look to make sure that the unit's discharge is clear (not obstructed), and that the warm (condenser) coil is clean.

high discharge pressure can be caused by dirty coil, slow speed on condensor fan or operating on a day in excess of 95 degrees. that is what all a/c mfg. do designed for 95 degree ambient

Is there a way to test the compressor for high pressure


If you are doubting the compressor is bad,remove the lines,after the ac system is discharged,and blow threw the condenser to see if it is stopped up,and go ahead and remove the orifice tube and replace it,you will have to do these things anyway if you replace the ac compressor.Rate please if this was helpful,thank you.

Ingersoll Rand Air compressor loosing pressure


sounds like you have a problem with the discharge valve on the secondary cylinder, some I.R. pumps rely on the cylinder head valves to hold back tank pressure when the pump comes to a stop. the line down to the crankcase in front of the crank is a unloader valve that dumps the air pressure inside the pump to allow the next restart. I think that once you drain the tank and remove that cylinder head you will find a defective valve in the head.

Hot air comes out at all times even when i turn on a/c


I think your cooling fan (elecric) isn't working when the a/c is on. If so, The a/c pressure climbs very high and pops open the emergency pressure release to save the system from damage.

Check your cooling fan and relays, or ect, engine collant temp sensor.

You may have to add freon too.

A/C Pressure Cutoff Switch

The A/C pressure cutoff switch is used to interrupt A/C compressor operation in the event of high system discharge pressures.
  • The A/C pressure cutoff switch is mounted on a Schrader valve-type fitting on the A/C compressor to condenser discharge line.
  • It is not necessary to discharge the refrigerant system to remove the A/C pressure cutoff switch.
  • A valve depressor, located inside the threaded end of the A/C pressure cutoff switch, presses on the Schrader valve stem.
  • This allows the A/C pressure cutoff switch to monitor the compressor discharge pressure.
  • When the compressor discharge pressure rises, the switch contacts open, disengaging the A/C compressor. When the pressure drops, the contacts close to allow operation of the A/C compressor. For specifications regarding operating pressure(s), refer to Section 412-00 .
The switch contains a second set of electrical contacts used for high-speed cooling fan control.
  • When the compressor discharge pressure rises, the contacts close and engage the high-speed fan control. When the pressure drops, the contacts open and the high speed fan control is disengaged. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03 .

it sounds like a loose compression compressor.

if the compressor is loose compression, normally it sounds noisy. then suction pressure is above normal and if you accelerate and maintains that high speed, let say 2000 rpm, the suction pressure goes down to the normal level and cools your air conditioning .
