Have you tried a different brand of dvd? are you using the right type of dvd. There are +r -r +-r etc. Tayio Yoden are the best brand to buy with ultra low error rate. If it's still messing up after this, try a different burning package like nero. If it still fails, your drive is up the spout and needs replacing so a trip to ebay is in order

Hp pavilion dv9000 cd rom not burning dvd-s. cd burning ok, dvd reading ok

you need to state what operating system you use.

but if cd-rom is burning cd's and not dvd's this is usually problem with software, you need to state what software you are using to burn dvd's as well, seem like you do not choose correct driver in your burn software settings.

I have a hp pavilion dv7 1243-cl the cd-dvd drive reads but will not write to either a cd or dvd.

I'm assuming your using XP, but are you using burning software? Have you tried any other brand of cd/dvd. I you've tried these things, more than likely it's your burner.

I have a hp pavilion dv9700 notebook pc, it can read cd's fine but whenever i try to burn a cd i always encounter some unknown error and it doesnt burn.

it is likely that your dvd is defective. I would suggest removing it and ordering one on ebay once you have the model number. They are fairly easy to remove. one screw holding it in either on the bottom of the laptop or under the keyboard

The cd burner on my hp laptop doesn't work properly.

There could be are various reason's for there.

1. The CD you insert is not blank or re-writetable
2. The CD is blank but its not the correct format (CD, DVD)
3. And worse case is the CD Drive is not a burner.

Hope this helps.

CD DVD drive won't read application disks like Photoshop, Vegas

Either they put in a bad mother board or damaged yor DVD drive. Maybe they even put in the wrong unit. In any case I'd send it back to them.

Problem Burning DVD's

This is a common problem with HP Pavilion series laptops - after a while, the DVD burners burns disks okay (it thinks), but then when you insert the DVD later it does not recognise it as having any content. Very irritating. There are two fixes. One is to update the firmware on the DVD drive (you need to download a bunch of stuff for this), but the other, believe it or not, is to change the writing DVDs you use. Try VERBATIM DVD -Rs, which work on my Pavilion when most others will not. I am guessing this has to do with the wavering power output of the laser in the drive as it gets older, it becomes more picky about what DVDs it will write. So try a different brand of DVDs first.

Good luck...
