Question about Porter Cable Tools & Hardware - Others

1 Answer

I have a Porter Cable narrow crown staple gun (NS 150A) that doesn't fire. When the trigger is pressed, it just pops a little, but won't fire. I've taken it apart an nothing is obviously broken....just won't fire. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a broken head valve seal. It is located in the cylinder behind the head valve. You will have to get the head valve out. You can do this by hitting the head on a maleable surface like a 2x6 (so as not to damage the head) with the open side down. Not too hard but hard enough to dislodge the valve. Also check to see if the valve oring has been damaged. Sometimes the oring will get caught in between the housing and the valve and that will cause that popping sound with no action. Check your schematic for the tool and look at items 104, 106, 107, 108 for damage. One of these parts is the culprit if everything in the body below is ok as you say. Make sure the the driver is not sideways and damaged along with the cylinder while you are in the tool. Test to make sure the driver slides easily with some drag up and down. There could be one more culprit and that would be in the trigger assembly item 209. Check to make sure that all seals are accounted for and that none are damaged or blocking airflow. If you have any questions please post back.

My new porter cable RN175B nail gun won't discharge a nail

If the trigger is set to single fire, you will need to place the gun against the work then pull trigger as you have done. Try setting the trigger to bump fire and try again. If hear a thump inside the gun, remove the head and check that the head valve in not stuck from lack of lubrication. Easy test, remove the nails, remove trigger pin, remove trigger and manually push trigger firing valve. If the gun fires then suspect faulty trigger or safety arm not lifting enought to activate the trigger valve. Good luck

Porter Cable FN250c wont shoot with every trigger pull. sometimes it shoots correctly (10% of the time), other times it just pops (no nail) and other times it shoots two nails at once. Also when it...

Worn trigger and or worn firing valve. Remove the trigger and look for wear on contact surfaces (worn pin that holds trigger, worn inner lever inside trigger, worn or loose firing pin in valve ). Easy test for worn trigger. Remove the nails, remove trigger, fire the gun against wood with finger to test for proper action. If it works better without trigger, consider replacing trigger with new (I would also order the oring repair kit that includes the firing valve )

We purchased a Porter Cable Staple Gun, Model # DA250B. Unfortunetly, it does not explain how to load the staples into the gun! Could you please help us. Thank you, ...

Porter-Cable/Delta has an excellent support site, where you can find pdf manuals, part numbers, etc.
http://servicenet.deltaportercable.com/

Porter-Cable DA250B is an angled finish nailer- it drives 15 gauge brad nails, and won't work with staples. There are some smaller pneumatic tools that can drive both brads or staples, they are typically the smaller 18 gauge fasteners.

If you have the correct 15 gauge angled nails, the DA250B manual has nice pictures showing how to insert them.

I have a ns100a porter cable narrow crown stapler. The driver will not retract, so it will not shoot staples. what can be the problem and how can I fix it? Thanks Pam

Usually when the driver is slightly bent, it will not retract. Easy to check. Remove the head and pull out the cylinder and driver together. Adjust the driver or replace as needed.

The driver blade breaks very easily on 18 and 22 ga nailers. I would suspect that the tip broke off. Easy to check. Remove the nails, connect airline and press the gun against rubber hose while holding the trigger. The gun will fire and driver will stay in the down position allowing you to check the tip. The tip should extend past the nose about 1/8 inch. When you release the trigger or pick up the gun, the driver will retract. Order parts as needed from www.toolpartsdirect.com

My RN 175 roofing nailer (porter cable) fires like a machine gun. I cleaned the trigger valve assembly and replaced the o-ring at top of the asembly. Still fires in high repetition.

With most nailers there is a safety device that has to be depressed as you press the gun against the work that is being nailed. This safety device might be damaged or jammed in the firing position allowing the gun to act like an automatic.

When pressing the trigger to fire a staple, all I get is an air leak from the area of the trigger.

They all leak a little on firing. Is it a big blast of air or just a hiss? All guns have a 'safety' device that keeps them from firing unless you follow a set pattern. You must push the gun down where you intend to put the staple which releases the safety before you pulll the trigger. You must then release the trigger move the stapler off the piece push it back down again before you can fire another staple. You can get (free) frrom the manufacture a rapid fire shoe and trigger that allows you to hold down the trigger and bounce the stapler along your work shooting merrily away.
