Question about Computers & Internet

Flashing screen The 17'' Viewsonic VE710b screen I have will not stay on with a permanent picture - it flashes on and off intermittently. I have tested it with another computer and has the same fault so it seems it is not the graphics card. Any suggestions? (It is 3-4 years old)

It seems that it is a hardware issue with the monitor, as it does the same thing with different PC. You can check the VGA cable going on the back of the Monitor as it may have a loose connection. It may be due to the connector, which is not getting placed properly, you can try changing the monitor VGA cable. OR need to send it for repair, but repair will cost around $50+, you may get another monitor by adding a little more to ie.

Shrey

I have VE710b monitor,i turn on monitor display dim.after 10 minute it coming good bright ness.

It seems to be the problem with the lamps inside the LCD screen. You have to replace one or both of them. You have to observe in what part of the screen is brighter, and how it changes in time.

wbog510, I suspect that your VE710B has developed what is commonly known as a "Thermally Intermittant Solder Joint" . It may be found near a solid state device on the "switch-mode-power-supply"/CCFL "inverter supply" combo board. Some of these "thermal/vibration fractured" solder joints can be seen (detected) with just a visual inspection with naked eye. Other times use of large magnifying glass or a jewelers loop or an inspection microscope will be required to locate them. Once the FRACTURE occurs the solder joint will OXIDIZE from the gases in the air we breathe. The intermittant connection only gets worse due to not having a "GAS-TIGHT" interconnecting solder joint!!! Well, the one good thing that you know now is that the unit is still functional. You will need to decide course of action to remedy. If this was of some help, rate this response on the FIXYA website. 12fixlouie

Monitor turns on and off

Is it an HP or a Viewsonic screen ?

Either way, looks like a power supply problem to me, some Viewsonic screens are known to have a problem with their inner power supply card, If your screen is still under warranty I suggest you don't lose time analysing the problem and just make them come and fix/replace it
