Tonytony_r, If you are really intent on opening your LCD monitor, then visit YOUTUBE and search for the longer (8-12min) video clips of LCD monitor disassembly and / or repair. BUT REMEMBER THIS!!! YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! iF YOU ARE NOT VERY CAREFUL, YOU COULD DAMAGE THE LCD SCREEN BY FRACTURING (CRACKING THE GLASS) SCREEN. Have you researched the web to find out what types of failures of electronic components to look for? I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com Good luck.

My 22" dell lcd flatscreen monitor just went out

I know it sounds stupid, but check all the cables and connection. Also make sure the cables are in good order.

Now with that out of the way. Is it getting any lights or indications of power at all? If so it could be a cable or connection point.

Worse case senerio, if your not getting any lights or indications of power (sometimes it seems like it should turn on) the monitor may have had a capacitor or power supple unit failure.

LCD can go out like that from long use or heat. If its older than 4 years its possible its done.
You can have someone open it up and check for budging or bad capacitors. This may be a cheaper option if you have someone is town.

Sorry to hear about the monitor. Good luck!

How do i test power on a dell flatscreen 1701fp. I have tested the power adapter and it is working and outputting the correct voltage. The monitor itself will not power on, I have disassembled and looked...

Since you cannot power on the monitor with the power switch on the monitor, then it can be the power supply or the logic board, or the inverter has shorted circuits so it makes the power supply go into shutdown mode.
This monitor uses 14vdc 3A power supply, so what you can do is to verify that you do have 14vdc at the DC input jack with monitor in the OFF mode, then try turn on the monitor to see if the 14vdc drops down to lower than 12vdc or so.
The inverter board has fuse also.
I do not have the pictures of the board for this monitor, but if you can post the pictures, then it will help a lot.
Does the inverter board look like this? http://www.badcaps.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=12595&d=1259317517
At this point I will concentrate why the monitor will not turn on first, you can disconnect the ribbon cables attached to the inverter board and see if the monitor will power up.

My dell monitor turns yellow after sometime... What can I do for it? What are the possible solutions.?

Under options for the monitor try degauss. This will de magnetize the monitor which may help.
Don't try to fix anything on the inside because old CRT monitors have dangerous capacitors
that can cause an electrical shock even when unplugged. Personally I would recomend getting
a new flatscreen. In the US they are pretty cheap even for a large screen, and burn much less electricity and look much better. If looking for a new monitor check online usually much cheaper
than big box stores. Newer models also have better refresh rates than the 1st ones that came out
so if your a gamer the performance of most newer flatscreens is pretty good.

I have a Dell flatscreen monitor model #E173FPb that turns itself on and off during use. How do I fix the switch, or is it something worse?

It can be failing power supply due to bad caps, or bad solder joints, or failing inverter circuits.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

No display on monitor; green switch keeps flashing

You may have shorted out transistors in the inverter circuits, common problem.

First, try it on another PC, check or try another VGA cable, if it still does not work then you need to open it up. Dell monitors are known to have bad solder connections, bad caps. See my photo albums of failed Dell monitors to get some idea what to look for.

My DELL flatcreen just went blank and is now flashing yellow light, won't turn on

Check and make sure your connections on the back of the PC are snug...and make sure you have a good connection at the back of the monitor.
Flashing light...is loss of signal.
Good Luck,
Mike
