Hi,

Try to login to windows messanger if you have else some chat programs like yahoo, skype or google, followed by try making a video call and it'll let you know whether your webcam works or not.

But if you want to see your webcam programs,
click start - all programs - search for the name(Web cam manufacturer)
or
open my computer - open c:\ - program files - search for the webcam manfacturer.. It should be there..

If you still dont find, let me know.

Hope this helps !
Thanks !

My webcam doesnt work

Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right.

But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date.
But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing.

Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c Windows Vista: DirectX 10).
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Which-version-of-DirectX-is-on-your-computer

If you still have no webcam installed

Run the "Add a device"application, accessed by clicking on the "Start" button, opening the "Control Panel," and then double-clicking on "Add a device."

The "Add a device" window will open and Windows will search for devices connected to your system but not installed.

Click on the webcam name that shows in the search box and then click "Next."

Choose whether you want Windows to search for the webcam device driver using Windows Update over the Internet, or if you'd prefer to have the device manager search for the driver using a disc supplied by your laptop manufacturer.

Most drivers can be found on the system recovery disc included with your laptop, if you choose to add the driver from the provided disc.

Place a check in the box next to your choice and then click "Next" to continue.
Wait while Windows searches from the driver using Windows Update, if this was your choice.

An active Internet connection is required for Windows to successfully do this.
Allow the computer to install the driver and then reboot the system for the webcam to become recognized by the system.

Otherwise, you can use the system recovery disc or a driver downloaded directly from your laptop manufacturer to install the driver without using the Windows Update search feature.

Open the CD/DVD-ROM drive and insert the system recovery disc, or place the driver downloaded from the manufacturer in an easily accessed file directory on your PC, such as on the desktop, or in your "My Documents" folder.

Choose the option "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" in the "Add a device" application, and press "Next" to begin searching for your webcam driver.

The hardware wizard will search the system recovery disc and install the driver automatically. Press "Finish" to close the wizard and then reboot the computer to allow recognition of the webcam.

Choose the option "Install the software manually" in order to browse to the driver location where you saved the driver and install it from there.

Use the opened file manager and locate the driver.
Click the "Next" button to install the driver, then reboot the computer to add webcam functionality.

Restart your computer, and while restarting plug your webcam back in. Then let your computer install the new hardware automatically.
  4. Step 4 Under you programs you will not have a program to run your webcam, and only have an option to uninstall it. The webcam will work with programs that use a webcam, such as Yahoo Chat. Just have it plugged into your computer and initiate the webcam in that program.

How can i install my a4 635 webcam with out cd?

Hello there,
As you'll notice, I pulled this link from A4Tech's site, it's the driver download for the PK-635 webcam....

http://www.a4tech.com/ennew/driver/CameraA.zip

You'll download this and then extract the files to a folder that you can easily remember; when you connect the webcam to your computer and it asks you for the drivers, tell it that you will choose the drivers from a specific location - where then you will point it to the folder wherein you extracted the above file to.... windows should find the driver files in there and take care of the rest.
Well, perhaps its an install file inside of there, in which case you would extract the files inside and then run a 'setup' or 'install' program from within that folder which would take care of everything.
You'll just hafta download and try out the above file & its contents...

I hope that works for you.

I have tried to install the software that is given from the link and several others but it keeps appearing an error message saying there is an error during installation. What can I do?

Have you uninstalled all the old webcam software on your pc ?
Download Revo and scan your computer for any webcam software - uninstall whatever you find.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Back this up with a manual scan - Start > Computer >> Local disk (C) >>Program files
Look for any folders that may be webcam related especially Lifecam
delete the folder if found.
Install software from Microsoft support. Select your OS and type Your webcam model into the search box
Close all programs when installing software and dis-connect webcam.

How to get my webcam works

  1. Press the QuickPlayc00865937.jpg button (normally located near the display) on the notebook PC to open the QuickPlay application. NOTE: If this takes you to DVDPlay instead of QuickPlay, then you are probably not using an HP Pavilion notebook and you do not have QuickPlay installed. You should skip this test and go to Test the webcam using YouCam instead. Alternately, click Startc00814574.gif , type QuickPlay in the search field, and select QuickPlay when it becomes available to open the QuickPlay application.
  2. Click c00865938.jpg icon, and double-click HP webcam in the Source column. The input from the webcam displays on the screen.
  3. Click Record in the QuickPlay window to record a short webcam file, and then press Stop .
    • By default, the file is saved in a public folder, and the date is used as the name of the video file. For example: C:\Users\Public\Videos\HP Webcam\webcam_20070228_1540.mpg .
    • The saved file can be renamed and moved for use by QuickPlay or other media programs.
  4. Double-click the name of the file in the playlist in the QuickPlay window to view the short Webcam file.
  5. If you can view this file, this concludes this test. You should now test with YouCam.
If you have a third-part webcam, see HP Notebook PCs - Testing a Webcam in Vista with QuickPlay for additional information. Test the webcam using YouCam To verify that the webcam on an HP or Compaq computer that shipped with Microsoft Vista with Service Pack 1 installed is operating properly, perform the following YouCam test. This test verifies that the Webcam is working and can record or play video files.
  1. Click Startc00814574.gif , type you in the search field, and select Cyberlink YouCam from the resulting list. After a few seconds the program starts and the webcam image should be visible in the main viewing window.
  2. Click c01475672.jpg in the main control bar to record a short webcam file, and then press Stop .
    • By default, the file is saved in the Documents folder, in a subfolder named YouCam, with a generic name based on the date. For example: Capture_20080327.wmv
    • To navigate to this folder, click Startc00814574.gif , Computer , and then select Documents under Favorites, and then open the YouCam folder.
    • The saved file can be renamed and moved for use by YouCam or other media programs.
  3. Double-click the name of the file in the playlist in the YouCam window to view the short webcam file.
  4. This test verifies that the webcam is working and can record or play video files.

I hope this helps you, I don't have the same operating system. You can find all the information you are looking for at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01560721&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3795310&lang=en#N565
