I can seem to change the text input mode from predictive to ABC mode.The instruction booklet says to press the right soft key or hold down the riht soft key btakes but that just takes you back to the previous screen. HELP!!!!!

You need to press the number key # briefly to switch between the abc, Abc, ABC, T9 abc, T9 Abc , T9 ABC and 123. The Status indicator in the top of line display. If you press and hold all input modes will be displayed.
ABC, T9, Number, and Symbol modes You can enter text in some features such as Messages, Phonebook, or Calendar, using ABC mode, T9 mode, Number mode, and Symbol mode. How to set up Text Entry Mode? 1. From any text entry screen (ie. when you are writing a text
message), press the top center button, the one above the directional

3. Select the "Primary Set Up" or "Secondary Setup" by choosing
your preferred input mode among the ones below. Us the wheel by
pressing on the right arrow to change mode:
ITAP: it's a built-in software which predicts the word you are typing.
TAP: enter individual letters and numbers by pressing the
keys multiple times. Ie. for the letter "F" press the number 3 button
Tap Extended: enter individual letters, numbers and symbols by pressing the keys multiple times
Go into a message like you are typing a new one. On the left or right soft key, they should be "options" - select that. When in the options menu, look for "typing options", "writing options", or something related to the dictionary. It is in there that you should be able to turn the dictionary on or off, which enables or disables predictive text.
When texting, press AND hold the * button. The display a the top right of the screen should change from T9Ab to Abc. Press (but don't hold) the * button again, the display will change to ABC. Press (but don't hold) the * button again, the display will change to abc. Press (but don't hold) the * button again, the display will change to 123.
The skill is pressing the * button and sometimes holding for a second longer. It requires PRACTICE. Try it for yourself.
First, hit the 'Message' button in the upper-left -hand corner. Select 'New Message'. Select 'New Short Msg'. An empty screen for inserting text will now be displayed. At this point press the top middle button (the one with the line on it like this -). Now the 'Message Menu' should be displayed. Scroll down to 'Entry Setup' & select it. Press the 'Change' button in the upper-right-hand corner when 'Primary Setup' is highlighted. Scroll down to 'TAP English' and select it. Now you are done. ('I TAP English is the setting for predivtive'. 'TAP English is the setting for manual').
Using T9 mode
T9 is a predictive text input mode that allows you to
key in any character using single keystrokes.
Entering a word in T9 mode
1. Press  to  to start entering a word. Press
each key once for each letter.
For example, press , , , , and  to
enter HELLO in T9 mode.
T9 predicts the word that you are typing, and it
may change with each key that you press.
2. Enter the whole word before editing or deleting
3. When the word displays correctly, go to step 4.
Otherwise, press  to display alternative word
choices for the keys that you have pressed.
For example, OF and ME use  and .
4. Press [ ] to insert a space and enter the next
Other T9 mode operations
• Press  to enter periods or apostrophes
• Press [ ] to change case. Lower case (No
indicator), Initial capital ( ), and Capital lock ( )
• Press [ ] to insert a space.
• Press the Navigation keys to move the cursor.
• Press [C] to delete characters one by one. Press
and hold [C] to clear the display.
Adding a new word to the T9 dictionary
This feature may not be available for some languages.
1. Enter the word that you want to add.
2. Press  to display alternative words for your key
presses. When there are no more alternative
words, Spell displays on the bottom line.
3. Press <Spell>.
4. Enter the word you want using ABC mode and
"The faulty interface lies between the chair and the keyboard"
it is the same key as to change case. If you press it repeatedly, it'll cycle through various options in the top right of the screen:
initial caps with predictive,
all caps predictive,
lower case predictive,
initial caps without predictive,
all caps without predictive,
lower case without predictive.
When T9 is not displayed, predictive text is off.
Just to spice things up, Samsung's idiotic software designers made it so that depending on the situation you're inputting text, the order that things cycle through is different, so you can't just press it a certain number of times to turn it off, you have to pay attention to the icon in the top right.
