Error e990-0000

E990 0000 When the locking Handle for the Process Assembly is turned to the locked position it re-positions a rack that opens the Waste Toner Shutters. When the rack is in the correct position there is a cutout in the rack that unblocks PS12, if the sensor remains blocked an E990 0000 will be generated.

Remove the Hopper Drive Assembly and the Hopper Assembly .
With those items removed you will see a white nylon gear plate with 2 locking screws. Loosen the locking screws and position the gear plate so that when the handle is in the locked position, the cutout in the rack unblocks PS 12.

Shutters on the lens won't fully open

Stuck automatic lens covers are fairly. But usually it's very easy to fix, without even opening the camera. See this link for troubleshooting steps for this problem.

Termostater problem

Hi there,

All mechanical thermostats have moving parts and can fail in any position. VW Bugs use a tiny accordion looking thermostat that is attached to shutters on the fan shroud. When cold the thermostat pulls the shutters closed to impede the flow of cooling air. When hot the thermostat expands and pushes the shutters open to allow airflow over the engines cooling fins. Changing it is a piece of cake. It is done from the bottom of the engine. It is the only accordion looking thing under the car. You will need to remove a piece of cooling tin on the bottom of the motor to get access to it so in addition to a flashlight and screwdriver bring a 10mm wrench.

If after replacement you still experience some trouble with it, you can try re-filling the water system. After re-filling the water system it needs to be bled of air(this is done by undoing the heater hose clip). It is also important to note that they used to fit a small bleed valve for Europe, but not for Mexican built beetles.

Finally, you can also have the car checked for a head gasket problem.

Good luck!

Canon Powershot A510 - lens covers stuck

A stuck lens cover is a fairly common problem, but it is normally easy to fix. A single grain of sand jamming the cover mechanism is normally the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it. There are many non-invasive techniques that people have come up with to accomplish this. Some may be seen on this blog article. You can also open the lens barrel up to fix the covers, but only as a very last resort. The article also gives examples for this type of procedure.

Automatic lens cover won't open

Hi,
Do you mean the shutters which protect the lens? If this is the case, are you able to carefully open them by hand? If so, there is a chance that a bit of dirt is preventing the shutters from opening. You might be able to get rid of the dirt by carefully sliding a bit of paper (I find yellow post-it notes perfect for this) in between the shutter and inside of the lens to shift the possible dirt. Also, you can try putting a minute drop of isopropyl alcohol (used in lens cleaning fluid) in between the shutters and the lens assembly so the possible dirt dissolves - then try to carefully open the shutters by hand. I don't recommend using any other alcohol/liquid for that.

Other than that, it's an absolute pain to get to the shutters to fix them properly on TZ3. Basically, the lens would need to be almost completely stripped-guide to do that would be beyond the scope of this site :)

Good luck,
Raf

My son pulled out one of the shutters that opens and closes over the lens. The shutters no longer open all the way. The camera is brand new. How can I fix the rest of the shutters? Should I pull them...

You can pull off the other one if you want. To put it back in your basically going to have to take apart the camera. The "Shutters" on the outside is nothing more but to protect the lens will its in the camera. The actual shutter is inside the lens that open and closes very quickly when you take a picture.

Think of it this way, the shutter in the lens opens up to let in light that shows the image to the sensor behind the lens. Then it closes to "finish" capturing the light".

The "shutters" or "doors" on the outside do not move once you take a picture. They only close once the lens retract. (When the camera is turned off or idles)

Hope this has been helpful.

Shutters closing while running

The shutters should be gravity closed, which means they are counter weighted just enough to close with no air flow...  when the fan starts, it will create a slight pressure differential across the shutters - when that pressure overcomes the counter weight, the shutters should open...  I assume you open windows and/or doors when the fan runs...
I would check for the following items: a) (unlikely) check to see if the counter weight is adjustable, if so, it may be slipping and needs reset.. I think this is unlikely as I think most shutters do not have adjustable counter weights -- check last)
b) check your attic vents to the outside -- the air being blown into the attic must escape to the outside world, otherwise it will build up pressure and the airflow will drop or stop altogether -- this sounds like what is occurring, at slow speeds, there is insufficient airflow to open the dampers, at high speeds, they open long enough for the pressure to build up and then they close as the air flow diminishes
c)  have you replaced windows, caulked up windows, made any modifications to reduce the flow of air into the living areas -- air must enter the house just as air must leave the attic (assumes you don't open windows or doors)
d)  if you have a fireplace, check to make sure some animal or other hasn't plugged up the chimney -- if the house is tight, the attic fan will pull air from the chimney unless it is blocked
hope this helps...
