The espresso side does not work. Everything starts beeping and I end up unplugging the machine. I used to unplug and plug back in and it would start working but now it doesn't work at all. I am sorry I bought it.

I've the same problem. When I oush the button for expresso, pump does a intermittant terribly noise and the water comes out a bit, then stops and start blinking and beeping. I have the impression the pump cannot get the whole amount of water it needs. As we have "heavy" water here in Paris, I've tried to change the filter, does no work. Also tried to remove the brewing head to check whether it was clogged, did not work. Descaling with vinegar did not work either... but all these may help one of you!

Espresso runs for 2-3secs then the lights flash and the machine beeps. I spoke to Krups and they suggested it was an overheating issue! has anyone solved this?

  • VLBII Jan 02, 2009

Same issue as others: Virtually no water through the brew head or the frothing accessory. Whatever water makes it out of the tank goes directly to the drip tray. Tried everything, multiple times New Year's Eve, to no avail. Gave it one last shot today, with no luck. It's a shame my kid's spent the $300 on this as a Christmas present for me last year. I leas there's some comfort in knowing it is not just me, and can now just "give it up", rather than continue to get aggravated.

When making espresso, coffee comes out of one nozzle much faster than the other

OK Krups is actually helpful. They have this problem with many machines. They should have recalled this or fixed it but oh well. I live in DC and I took it to a shop in Gaithersburg to get it fixed and if they cannot fix it they will replace it. Call Krups and there should be a shop near you hopefully. If not they will tell you where to mail it.

Combination espresso-coffeemaker XP228. Where can I obtain user instructions?

The documentation seems slim online. I'm guessing perhaps you might have meant a Krups 2280, since the only Krups 228 reference I can find leads to a site trying to download a .exe file, which I'll decline to pursue :-b One site (
XP 2280 Manuals ) says you can order one, but I'm generally suspious of anything wanting you to use their downloader or such. I did find one for a Krups 2070 ( ) that looks very similar to the XP2280 machine. I hope that helps.

Good luck!

My Krups XP4050 frother heats and makes bubbles but no froth

It doesn't froth because the air hole in the frother has become plugged with dried milk (cream). There are two types of frother - old one was a black rubber nipple with a stainless 2-3inch air tube rising above the milk. The plastic insert has a pin hole (really about the size of a straight pin!) that clogs. Use a sewing needle or straight pin to clear it.

Milk froths at 1st then doesn't after 1 week

Ensure first that you are using the steam pipe in the correct way to froth the milk.

If it still does not work, that means that the steamer is not generating enough pressure steam.

This happens either because there is not enough heat, or if you release the steam when pressure is not enough.

If you think you are doing everything in the right way, then contact the company and insist for having the machine fixed or replaced.

No espresso

I had the same problem and found out that the flow meter was not working. The control unit was not getting flow information and after about 5-10 seconds it will just stop and blink all the lights. I replaced the flow meter and solved the problem. The flow meter is located between the water tank and the pump.

Froth control problems

Your vinegar did the job: it as removed the deposits, now these deposits are clogging the four holes porcelain valve.....if the froth lever is not broken.
Remove all the screw you can see on the top and under the top of it, remove the cover, unscrew the frothing device down to the porcelain valve consisting of two 4 holes discs, clean them, and voila!
