No response from touch screen after reset

I keep having to use pin reset to get the GPS to turn on. Had it 6 months. Always worked before. Now first screen with Tom Tom beating the drum comes up after that then if not connected to pc asks me to accept user agreement and I cannot get it to accept my touch screen response. If connected to PC it asks if I want to connect but neither Yes nor No works. Seems as if the touch screen is forzen.

Recently upgraded to 2.1 software and it was working fine. Now I am 500 miles from home on a visit for the holidays and it's stopped!!!! Very frustrating. Can you assist?

same problem with no success yet

  • furgivn1 Jan 01, 2008

My 910 works on the computer but not on the LCD. All I get at startup it the drum sound and a picture of the 910, and the only way to power it down is to unplug the power as it won't do it with the switch.

Well at least I can hook it up to my computer and see where I live, I just want to know how I'm going to get my pc in the car to see the device work.

I had a terrible experience with tom tom's support team. They told me to just throw it away and buy a new one without even understanding my problem. I must say I am not happy at all with their TECH SUPPORT! I've tried the soft reset with the small hole underneath to no avail and when I try to back up the 910 on the Home version 2.1 it kicks me out and say's no way and just kicks me out and shuts down the whole program.

O.K. enough....Thanks for listening and hope their is help or that someone knows who could work on it to fix it for me.

Ok, that did not work!
I keep my tomtom in my work bag and usually keep it in the little case that comes with it, for some reason I got lax and just dropped it into nmy bag for a few days and that is when it quit working. (use the case) here is what I did to make mine work again. I noticed that when I would slide a business card under and along the edge of the screen, I woudl get some reaction, what I ended up soing was cutting some shims, two slices of a business card, i stacked them and slid them under the black plastic frame around the screen, now my tom tom works just fine, I can only assume that something got bent or misaligned, and yeah thats probably not the correct fix, but it works.

Hook the Tomtom using the USB cable to your computer. You should see the Tomtom drive under My Computer as a drive letter.

Backup all data from the Tomtom to a folder on your computer. Now select the Tomtom drive and right click, select properties, select tools, and then Check now. Allow the computer to fix any problems with the Tomtom drive. Once this is completed. Remove the USB cable and do a reset. Now turn on your Tomtom and it should work.

My garmin keeps trying to acquire satellite and doesn't work properly. What should I do?

Most likely the GPS chip in the machine has got stuck and need to be reset. Do this either by resetting the GPS itself by doing the following:
  • Turn the GPS off
  • Press and hold the lower right corner of the touch screen.
  • Turn on the GPS without releasing the touch screen.
  • When the unit asks if you want to remove all user settings, release the touch screen and choose "yes".
This will reset the unit and most likely solve the issue. The first acquiring of satellites could take a full 30 minutes, but after that the unit should work as always.

Touch screen does not respond

Step 1. Turn your Nuvi unit off, remove any SD cards from the SD card slot and make sure that the unit is not plugged into any computer.
Step 2. Place a fingertip on the upper left hand corner of the touch screen and keep it there while turning the unit on, a prompt should read " Do you really want to start in maintenance mode?"
Step 3. Select the yes button.
Step 4. Enter your PIN if enabled.
Step 5. Main Maintenance Mode screen should have 4 selections:
System information
View Diagnostics
Clear User data
Clear Waypoints
Step 6. After some selections the unit should reboot and you check to verify unit after rebooting.

Freezes at pin request

Can you enter the PIN number? Is the touch screen working? Many times a unit will appear to freeze when the problem is the touch scfreen. You need the PIN number and a working touch screen in order to get back into the Garmin and restore to default.
