someone said alt, control stuck. I replaced keyboard so would that not make a difference or is it more motherboard than keyboard?

  • vjs Oct 06, 2009

yes it is the ioustl kind of letters not " ? >. Just tried the suggestions fn and number lock and that did not work. It also seems its picking up the letter on top of it,example if i press the k it picks up the i and i press the l it picks up the o.

not sure why or how that would have been changed all of a sudden but just checked the regional/language and all of that is the same and correct. Now what. All of this came out of nowhere.

If the characters at issue are the UIOPLKJM then press Fn + Numlock to turn it off
If other letters are effected Like " and - then go to Regional and Language settings in control panel and ensure you have the correct keyboard/language selected on all 3 tabs

From what you describe, the keyboard selection in Regional and Language settings is the issue

I have a Dell D510, when I login in I have problems with the keyboard, I type one letter and the screen displays another , always seems to be b and n.s also the screen flips upside down and this then...

Just out of curiosity, go to Run and type OSK. This will bring up the on screen keyboard, try typing and see if that brings up the "wrong" characters. This would eliminate the keyboard or prove the keyboard is having issues. You can also attach a USB keyboard and double check with that.

If it happens again, disconnect from the internet (make sure no connection is active) and try again, if it fails to reproduce the problem, you may have a virus
http://www.exterminatelab.com/remove-protoss-virus

If it is a virus, chances are it is allowing someone to remotely access your computer and producing these errors (probably unlikely but..)

Please try the above and then get an online virus scan to eliminate this possibility

My laptop is typiing 3 letters when i use m,n,b,v and z

This is typically due to the circuitry of the keyboard over time. You can try using canned air to try to clean the keyboard, but in most instances, you will need to replace the keyboard. Good Luck!

On my Toshiba Satellite Pro M15-S405, i would push a certain letter on the keyboard and instead of typing that letter, it would make a window pop up. Is there some kind of setting that i can change to...

Your windows key (the one with the flag) appears to be blocked. Try pressing them both (or 1, if you only have 1) once, see if the keys work again. If not, try taking the keys off the keyboard (just put somthing under them and pull) and put them bac on. If that doesn't help either, you will have to have your keyboard replaced.

Keyboard typing extra letters >.<

Sounds like the windows key is stuck down, pressing start+r opens run, start+e opens explorer etc. The start key being the one between control and alt.

Hi!

If you have replaced the keyboard and still the issue is there, then you are right. The controller is shot. You need to replace the motherboard again for this type of issue.

Typing different letters than what i am striking

Your are on the wrong keyboard setting. Look around the typewriter, usually on the left side of the keyboard, and you will see a setting 1,2 or 3. Keyboard one is the one you want.
