Gibson Furnace KG6RC-060C-12A Model

Somewhere on the unit there is a small chart that identifies the problem that the lights are indicating. That helps narrow down a long list of possibilities. However, if you catch it acting up you can check that limit switch like this:
with your voltmeter set to voltage test from one side of the switch to the other. If the limit is "open" due to an overheat problem your meter will read 240 or 24 volts depending. If the limit is closed/working it will read 0 volts. The unit must be running for this test. The problem is there is a small window of opportunity before it cools off and closes. Whatever you do, DO MOT BYPASS THE LIMIT!

Hello, welcome to FixYa. Your post indicates your machine is a Whirlpool, however if you could post the actual model number I could speak specifically about your machine. Initially it sounds like a burnt wire in the junction box or a burnt hi-limit/fuse in the control panel...if applicable to your model, hemce the need for the number. I will watch for your reply. Good luck. Thank you for choosing FixYa. Regards, Macmarkus :)

Maytag Neptune Dryer Model #MDE4000AYW Our heating element does not heat up. I have continuity through both the heating element, the thermal fuse and the high limit switch. What troubleshooting tests...

It is dangerous to do but you have to turn dryer on while it is apart and wait for limit to open up, then test. !st make sure all connections are ok. The clips and the nuts all need to be tight. If any look dark or burnt that may be your weak link. If you are sure that everything is else is working ok, a set of high limit switches is not very expensive. The voltage is 220 so if your careful you can test at each junction, but be careful..

Dryer runs but wont heat

There are 2 possibilities for this problem.
1. The limit switch is out. The limit switch is located on the heating element on the back of the dryer. This is a small button type part. it will have 2 prongs on it for 2 wires that slide on for power.
2. The heating element is out. This will be on the back of the dryer and depending the model it should be a long metal piece that has metal elements inside of it to heat the dryer. or it could be a large round unit. these can be tested with an om meter.

The limit switch will be the cheapest to start with on replacing.
If you need further assistance please do not hesitate to ask. I will need the make, model, and the serial number of the unit to help you further. the model and serial number can be found by opening the dryer door and looking by the hings. there should be a sticker with this information on it.

How do you find out your model number on an old unit when it is faded out, need to replace the limit switch on a 1995 ruud 4ton 10 seer. The limit switch is also faded.

If you can find the wiring diagram pasted on one of the panels you may find the model number printed on it. Even if there are a few different numbers on it, most parts for all those models are interchangeable.

I have a 80 series Kenmore dryer, runs fine...no heat. Help!!!

Your heating element is burnt out or a high limit switch has gone bad. I suspect that the element is out since it is hard to blow a high limit switch. To access the element you will need to remove the back of the dryer and in the bottom left hand corner there should be a box, or tube, that contains this element. It looks like a toaster element. To see if the element is bad you will need to run a continuity test or visually inspect this coil for any breaks. If there is a break you need to take the model and serial numbers to an appliance parts house for replacement.

Good luck on repairs hope this helped you some

Electronic/Electrical Problems

sounds like you have a number of problems.
a. hazard lights and no head lamp dimming and no turn indicator, most likely the multi function switch has failed. but check the bulbs first.
b. head lamp bulb is burnt
c.side mirror switch is disconected or has failed

No heat when switched on,

two things. First, You could have a dryer element burnt out. To see if the element is out you need to visually check to see that it has not been broken or you can use an electric meter to test for continuity. Make sure you disconnect all the wiring from one end of the element before testing for continuity. 2nd you could have a burnt out high limit swithch. Take the model and serial number of the unit to an appliance parts store for replacement. High limit switches nor elements are that hard to remove and replace. Make sure to unplug the unit before doing any work. Good Luck

I have a Kenmore Elite model # 11063032101. It

If exhaust is blocked or restricted from back of dryer to outside of home it will cause the dryer to over heat the high limit switch. Repeated overheating will weaken the over load switch and it will need to be replaced if normal operation can not resume without restriction. Sea Breeze
