Question about Linksys WRT160N Wireless Router

1 Answer

I am trying to install the WRT160 N router, but can't install it due to having a Static IP. What should I do? The set up CD is giving the message that the the ethernet cord isn't plugged in. All I am doing is replacing my old G router with the new router, BUT I just received the Static IP address a few days ago.

Do not run the set up disc do it manually.
.You said that you have a static IP.
Is the static IP for the internet service provider or it is on the computer.
If you have set up the static IP on the computer then you will need to remove the static IP address from the computer and set it to obtain IP automatically.
If you have a static IP given by the ISP then you can use it to set up on the router.
Check the Ip address of the computer when connected to the router.
I believe the default gateway will be 192.168.1.1.
open the set up page of the router. default password of the router will be admin. Once you open the set up page of the rotuer, you will find the option Internet connection type. set it to STATIC IP address.
then you will get the option to enter the static IP address given by ISP.
Enter the information and Click save settings at the bottom and you will
be able to go online.

After upgrading to Windows 10, my router needs to be reset (unplugged and then plugged back in again) everytime I want to use my computer. This is getting old!

You don't say exactly WHY this happens, or what message you get when trying to connect. It is most likely, from the sounds of things, an IP address conflict. Your computer may be set for a static IP address that is in a range that is assignable as a dynamic one. If the router gives your static IP to another device, then you won't be able to connect. Unplugging and restarting the router with your computer on and waiting to connect frees up the previously assigned IP address and lets your computer have it. You should check your PC to make sure that you DON'T use fixed IP unless there is a necessity for it. If that is the case, then you should, in the router table, assign the PC (using the MAC address from your machine) the IP address you want it to have every time it connects. That way you don't have to set your PC to a static IP and the address you want (or need) is always reserved for your machine when you connect to the router.

How do i open my nat for my motorola sbg900

for static IPs: check your router settings. router should be in "bridged" mode so that all the devices have own static "lan" ips like 192.168.0.1 / 192.168.0.255 router will have one lan ip static and one global ip(one it gets from service provider) you must manually give one address of 192.168.0.1 / 192.168.0.255 for your xbox. then give correct subnetmask (default 255.255.255.0) and gateway routers lan ip (default 192.168.0.254) you can aslo put routehrs lan ip as default dns if needed dmz or port forwarding is a tool in your router settings you can assign outside ports to specific ip i have only done manual port forwarding, not sure how dmz works.

You can ignore the CD. You don't need any kind of software to hook up a cable modem. Modems do not have anything to configure. Plug in your cable line, wire it to your router (or a computer) with an ethernet cable and you'll be good to go. If you have a static IP you'll just need to enter that info into the router. If you didn't specifically order a static IP from your ISP then you have a dynamic IP and don't need to worry about it.

I can't install a Netgear wgr614vp router - stops in the middle and says, "we have detected a static IP address" - won't let me go any farther

The fact remains, unless Comcast (your ISP) has given you a "static" IP odds are that your IP is in fact NOT static, but dynamic (where your ISP can change your IP at the drop of a hat. I am wondering what the router is detecting to tell it that your IP is in fact static? Comcast OUGHT TO be able to tell you, without getting one of "their" routers, if your IP is static or dynamic. Comcast has this answer, and no onev else, so keep after them.
At any rate, you ought to be able to get to your router control by pointing your browser at http://192.168.1.1 and log in with the following:
User Name: admin
Password: {leave this blank}
Once you've logged in let me know and we'll take small steps to get you online, OK?

I am given a set up error while trying to configure netgear WGR614. Below is the message The router is setup with the static IP values read from the computer. However, there is no Internet connection with...

You need to contact your Internet Service Provider to obtain the setup configuration for the cable or DSL modem. A LAN cable is then connected from the modem to the Internet LAN port on the wireless router.
Normally you do not set a static IP address on the router, and the wireless card should be set to obtain an IP address automatically.
If you still have problems, give me details of what configuration steps you have carried out on the router and the wireless card together with the error messages.

D-Link DIR-635 Wireless N Router won't install

hi! I will be more than glad to assist u in this concern. I encounter that problem as well. I have a dlink as well. I follow the cd installation and it wont detect the modem or internet. but if the computer is connected to the modem it works..what i did. i didnt follow the cd installation, I set it up manual by typing at the url of your brower, 192.168.0.1 that is the ip add of the router and it will ask the username and password, by default the username is admin and the password, just leave it blank..in the setup page, select on manual internet connection setup.. there is an option for dhcp-which is auto detect, static ip or pppoe. but first check what kind of setting u have with ur isp, if u are using a username and password, u have to select the pppoe, if the isp provide gave u a static ip address u have to select static.. to know your ip address settings, click start, run and type cmd and it will show dos prompt, from there type ipconfig/all, it will list the ip address, subnetmask, default gateway, dns server.. I hope this will solve ur concern..

Wireless router install on cable modem w/static ip address set

Connect a computer to linksys lan port 1-4, point browser to linksys http://192.168.1.1 under Setup->Basic Setup->Internet Settings choose "Static IP" and fill in the fields below... the field for gateway should be set to the static ip of your cable modem. the field for netmask should probably be 255.255.255.0. It may help to turn on DHCP for local network so that lan hosts can get their ip's from the linksys.
