Question about Sony DSR-1500 Mini DV VCR
DSR-1500 firewire port doesn't work. Is there a list of common failures published somewhere? It is plugged into a DVP-25a board.
It may be that the firewire cable has been inserted the wrong way round. Unfortunately this is a common problem as it is quite easy to do this especially when fumbling around with limited access behind the deck. Worst case scenario is that the Firewire circuit board has been fried! Firewire connection carries 30 volts, and if this connect to the wrong pins - pop goes the board. It's a £300 job to fix (I think). But first of all try pairing down any patching / connection to other equipement to a minimum to ensure that there is not something else in the chain that could be causing the problem.
