It is possible that the CD you used did not load in all of the necessary drivers for the motherboard chip set and other hardware. If you do not have another disk, double check the one you have to see if it contains a seperate folder for drivers. If not, go to and see if you can find driver downloads for your particular machine.

Hello Haracio_ic,

This type of pc error usually happens due to varied reasons. The anti-malware software your using might have deleted critical system files infected by the virus/malware/trojan inside your pc. Using of incompatible software that requires higher configuration other than the configuration you currently have.

I would suggest you to try repairing / recovering your system from your system recovery disk. If you are using Windows XP , boot up with your Original Windows XP CD and repair it.

Feel free to reply if you have any doubts.

Trying to reformat my ibm think pad from safe mode any thoughts on how to do this with out the disc?

Often, IBM systems have a partition that restores your system to its original state (factory restore / recovery).

Power off your Thinkpad. Power on and press the F11 key repeatedly when the Thinkpad begins to start up

You should be able to access the partition and the instructions should take you through the process of recover.

Hope this helps.

I restored the hard drive to original state, and nothing comes up. it says an nv4- nvidia file is missing. i dont have a back-up cd. Please advise. it wont start in safe mode.

I would suggest you go to the Nvidia website and get the correct driver for your hardware. Then can you start Windows setup in repair or recovery mode and add the driver to the hardware list?

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

The reason you cant get past the restart is because by selecting safeboot on the boot.ini tab, you have now set your computer to boot straight into safe mode (even though you knew your computer couldnt boot to safe mode) :)

Were you having trouble before? Why were you trying to get into safe mode in the first place? it may help with the solution. Were you getting shutdowns or blue screens? Ram problems can cause all sorts of issues.

Do you have your windows cd? If you do then follow the instructions on the link below to replace your boot.ini. file…

Let me know how you get on with that and we will go from there :) (just edit your original post with added detail)

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

I need to reboot my toshiba equium l10-300 laptop with no cd

Try starting in safe mode. Hold down oth the control and F8 kays and press power. Do not release Contro & F8 until it starts to beep. Then it shoud start in safe mode. If the computer will not start in safe mode you have a hardware problem. If it starts in safe mode, you have a Windows problem that re-installing Windows will solve that (to a point). Without the Original CD and install code, you have two options. Buy a new OS or.......pirate it. I do not recommend the last.

How to repair Toshiba Satellite in safe mode+ blue screen IQRL error

BIOS – the Binary Operating System may be corrupted – Use of Safe Mode to boot system.

a. Try starting the computer in the safe mode. Restart the computer and see the point to which it boots up before you get the blank screen.
b. Press F8 as the computer starts to boot. (For HP and Compaq computers with VISTA, use F10, For HP Pavilions with XP or earlier version of OS, use F1). Use the arrow keys to select the safe mode and press Enter. Remember that NUM LOCK should be OFF for the arrow keys to function.
c. If Windows launches before you can choose the safe mode, restart computer and go to step a.
d. You can choose “Safe mode with command prompt” option if you know how to use MS-DOS
e. You can choose “Last known good configuration” to go back to the last known safe shutdown state.
f. If you have added any drivers or corrupted any files the last time you used the computer, the safe mode will help you get back to the state before the changes, when the computer was running smoothly.

7. BIOS – the booting software may be corrupted – Use of Recovery Console to boot system

a. If the recovery console is already installed on the system, one of the options you see while the system is initially booting up will be “Microsoft Windows Recovery Console”. If it’s not already on the system, it can also be accessed through the network during “command prompt with network” option in safe mode.
b. Recovery console can also be installed at the time of need from the CD-ROM. Go to the following link for additional info :
c. Recovery console helps to Enable or disable services. If Windows informs us during boot up that a file is corrupted or missing, then we can use the Recovery console to copy files from a CD to the computer to repair the corrupted or missing information.
d. You can also recover the system by reconfiguring a service that may be preventing your computer from starting correctly. (FIXMBR, FIXBOOT, etc)
e. For a list of Recovery Console commands, search :

Hope this may help;

Northgate not booting correctly from HD

If you can't get it to boot from last known config, safe mode, or anything else, you won't get it to boot from CD. Sounds to me as if the HD has failed.

??Windows won't start on Acer Laprtop Travelmat 290 running WIndows XP (1 & 2) It keeps saying start windows in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good...

give the "last known good configuration" a go if you have not already ,or the safe mode ,
if that is no good
when the pc try's to boot up it should show a key ,such as (F11) that needs to be hit to enter the recovery stage ,what ever it is do it and follow the prompts, this should recover the laptop to its delivered state ,when it finishes you can restore your backups.
however if the drive does not have a recovery partition you will not be able to do it.

it may be that the hard drive is ok but the operating system files have been corrupted in some way,

as you have no windows disc you will need to obtain one to either recover the operating system or re install windows, and you may have to go to the Acer website afterwards for some drivers when you have finished.

good luck
