Question about Passport 8500 Radar Detector

False Laser Alarm

I tried the qtip suggestion of opening my 8500 and cleaning it. I also used a bottled air spray to clean. It has been over one week now and there have been no false laser alarms.

Thanks

SOURCE: Getting false alarm from laser. Laser alarm keeps

If the laser continuously falses even with the car's ignition turned off, then your radar detector has an internal electronics problem. If your radar detector frequently or nearly continuously falses for laser while you are driving even in the middle of nowhere, then most likely the cause of the problem is either poor power and ground connections or electrical noise within your vehicle's electrical system. SOURCE: getting false laser readings, any adjustments?

This is fixable as described in other threads here. This is annoying and seems to be random, though it also does it sometimes when the wipers are turned on or I use the windshield sprayer. 2 minutes with a smal Philips screw driver and a Q-tip will fix it. I just did mine and it works great now.

Unscrew the three screws, pop the three components apart (it really is a no-brainer since they only fit back together ONE WAY, so don't be nervous. There is not anything that is going to fall apart or spring into a hundred pieces in there.

I used canned air to blow everything out and just used the Q-tip on the front window and the parts that looked like the detector window internally... I didn't bother swabbing all of the board.

IT WORKS! GREAT FIX!!!!! DO IT!! NO MORE FALSE LASER ALARM WHILE ACCELERATING and randomly.

This is a common problem with the older units, the Laser horn gets dirty and out of alignment causing this issue. You can send the unit in for repair or try to fix it yourselfe

My WII system has the error has occured message keep popping up, I've done the unplugging part and it dont work, supposadly you ca nuse compressed aar to clean out the dust inside but I dont know wich part...

Ok I'm assuming its not reading your game disc and keeps poping up an error. IF so you need to replace your laser. Or possibly could try cleaning the laser off with qtip and rubbing alcohol. You'll need a small phillips screwdriver and a triwing screwdriver which is on ebay pretty cheap also the lasers are on ebay less then $10 for them.

Dvd can't read

try cleaning the laser lens by opening it up as if you wer going to insert a disk take a qtip dip it in rubbing alcohol and looking for deep inside a small white circle with a small glass dot incenter of it wipe it off with the wet qtip followed up by a dry qtip thentry it again
also make sure the disk is clean and not cracked or loaded with scratchs try a different disk and see if it reads it you can also go to fred meyers or walmart and get a lens cleaning disk for around twelve bucks these are very usefull also try to pick up disk cloths or a bottle of disk polishing compound wallmart sales all these products quite often these steps will solve your problems (tip) if you use the polish compound rub softly and i have found that a clean t shirt works well for the final wipe good luck i hope these tips help

Samsung scx 4100 cleaning the roller

one way to clean those rollers is to take the printer apart. this would provide you with enough room to fix it and clean it.

however, if the suggestion of taking it apart does not sound good, you can still actually have that cleaned while it is turned on. as what you mentioned, you are asking how would it turn while cleaning it. i suggest that you try using the qtip and tune the printer to turned on. so that you can actually see what your doing with the roller.

Laser warning going off all the time

Hi All,
I fixed my Radar, No Manufacturer help, no cost to me at all. I got advice from a forum member on a satellite forum I belong to. So what I did was I took apart the radar. Watch carefully how it comes apart so you can reassemble again after. Get a Dry Q-tip (ear swab) leave it dry so you do not end up leaving and residue on the diodes etc. Start by cleaning the horn, wipe the electronic board all over gently with the Qtip , blow ou the diffusion screen (leave the spit in your mouth). After all that I did not see a spec of dirt on the Q tip I used..there was no sign of dirt, residue but whatever I did do fixed the problem. I have been using it for three months and not one false alarm from the laser mode.

Good luck all......

False Laser warning when engine RPM goes over 3000.

Hey guys, me again....Deadcandance..... I posted my trouble on a Satellite forum I belong to and I had a suggestion which I tried. And it worked!!!!! No manufacture returns, no cost at all, what I did was tokk it apart gently ...watch how everything comes apart so that you can reassemble again....

Start by getting a couple Q-Tips (Ear Swabs).Leave them dry so they won;t leave any residue on the diodes. Gently clean the horn, than clean/wipe the electronics board, and blow out the diffusion screen (leave the spit in your mouth). After I wiped the unit down, I didn't see any dust persay or dirt on the Q-tip but whatever I did, fixed it....
It worked for me. Took 15 minutes to do and I have been using the Radar for three months and not one false alarm in Laser mode.
Good luck...
