Windows cannot initialize the driver for this hardware code 37

Uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers for the device is a likely solution to a Code 37 error, especially if the error is showing up on a device other than a BD/DVD/CD drive.

Important: If a USB device is generating the Code 37 error, uninstall every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers hardware category in Device Manager as part of the driver reinstall. This includes any USB Mass Storage Device, USB Host Controller, and USB Root Hub.

Note: Correctly reinstalling a driver, as in the instructions linked above, is not the same as simply updating a driver. A full driver reinstall involves completely removing the currently installed driver and then letting Windows install it over again from scratch.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A Code 43 error message indicates that the Microsoft Windows operating system has stopped a hardware device because it has failed. Although the problem might be a technical fault with the hardware device, troubleshooting the device's software drivers will often fix the problem. Troubleshoot a Code 43 error from the Windows Device Manager or by downloading updated device drivers.

Windows displays the Code 43 error message and prevents the hardware device from activating when one of the drivers controlling the hardware notifies the operating system that the device has failed. If your computer displays a Code 43 error, Microsoft advises you to first check the hardware device's documentation for advice on common problems and how to troubleshoot the device. This may include reinstalling the device. If the hardware seems to be working properly, try troubleshooting the device drivers. b> Device Troubleshooting Wizard b> Windows includes an integrated troubleshooting wizard for hardware devices. To access this feature, open the "Devices and Printers" folder from the Start menu. Right-click the device and then select "Troubleshoot" from the context menu. Windows automatically checks the device and attempts to detect and automatically fix problems. You might need to click the "Yes" button during the procedure to download software or driver updates. Update Drivers With Windows Update b> Updating hardware device drivers with the Windows Update tool can also fix hardware problems. Click "Check for Updates" in the left pane of the Windows Update tool that you can access from the computer's Control Panel. Windows Update displays the number of important, recommended and optional updates in the main pane. On the "Select Updates You Want to Install" page, click and enable the check box for the hard drivers that you want to install. Click "OK" to automatically download and install the items. b> Update Drivers With the Device Manager b> If you don't want to rely on Windows Update, you can also manually update drivers for the problematic hardware with the "Device Manager" tool that you can access from the Control Panel. Double-click on the faulty hardware, which the Device Manger might label with yellow-black exclamation mark icon. Click the "Driver" tab in the dialog window, and then click the "Update Driver" button. Windows checks for driver updates and, if found, automatically installs the new drivers. You might need to restart your computer at the end of this process. b> Service and Repair b> If you can't resolve the problem by following the recommendations in the manufacturer's help documentation, or by troubleshooting the device and updating drivers with Windows, you might need to contact the manufacturer to arrange for the device to be serviced or repaired. You should find service and repair information or contact details in the device's user manual or in the support section of the manufacturer's website. it might take some time being a freeware driver solution note: it will find all of your outdated drivers This is a free driver solutions.
This will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point.

Click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated.

Hope this helps.

On what basis system drivers are compatible ?

Device drivers are needed to communicate with a hardware device within a computer. A computer program, such as the operating system, sends an instruction to an device driver, which then tells the hardware device what to do. Operating systems typically contain drivers for all types of hardware devices, but they are mostly generic. Finding the drivers that are needed by a computer can be done by finding the type of hardware being used and updating or installing software.

Go into the computer's BIOS to view installed hardware. When starting the computer, press the F2 key or Delete to enter the BIOS. The BIOS will display the type of hard drive as well as the type of CD/DVD drive that is installed in the system. Look in the Device Manager within Windows to see the hardware devices that are installed. Double-click on the "System" icon within the Control Panel and then go to the "Hardware" tab. Click on the "Device Manager" button to see a list of devices that are installed and used by the operating system. Check Windows Update for available updates to on-board hardware devices. Hardware components, such as a video controller and audio controller, can have an updated driver that can be downloaded and installed from Windows Update. Use the installation CD that came with the hardware device. The setup program will install the software and drivers that are needed to use the device. Refer to the manual that came with the computer or hardware component. The manual will list the model number of the device as well as the website of the manufacturer. Visit the manufacturer's website for a hardware device that is installed on the system. Updated drivers to devices are available from a manufacturer to correct problems and to add additional functionality to a device. The site can also be used to find drivers for hardware if the manufacturer is no longer in business.

Code 37 on dvd drive

The Code 37 error may occur when the concerned device is not connected to the system correctly and when its driver is faulty. A code 10 error is common when you add or remove USB devices or video & sound cards to and from your PC. When these errors occur, you may receive the error message given below.
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
To resolve code 37 errors, first ensure that your device is properly connected to your system. For instance, check all the cables of your printer or check that your sound or video adaptor is properly seated in its slot.
Try to remove and reinstall the device, and run the Add New Hardware Wizard from the Control Panel to see if Windows detects and installs it. If this does not resolve the issue, then update the device driver by performing the following steps:
1. Open Control Panel and select System.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, select Hardware tab, and then click on the Device Manager tab.
3. Scroll down the Device Manager window and identify the faulty hardware from the list.
4. Right-click on the hardware and select Update Driver.
5. Follow the screen instructions to resolve the error.
If these steps do not resolve your error, then the problem might be with your device. Get it checked by an authorized technician.

After installing vista service pack 1 my dvd rom is gone.

I would try stopping the device and restarting it first.

If that doesn't work, find the latest drivers for it, and have them in a folder you can find easily. In device manager, you can right click, go into properties for the DVD-ROM. Click the update drivers button, and point it to that directory.

If neither of those work ,try completely uninstalling it from device manager, then going through the add new hardware option in control panel.
