I just got this Hitachi 55 in. for free from my boss. He had it since it was new in 1999. It work fine up to a couple of days ago. I took the back of and pluged it in and all the green leds start to light up then they will turn off and the red protection led starts to flash. I was wondering if you had an idea of what it might be.
Same problem, green LEDs come on when unit plugged in then go off and red led flashes power fault ??? !!! ???Same problem, green LEDs come on when unit plugged in then go off and red led flashes power fault ??? !!! ???

The local shop charged my $400 picked up repaired, cleaned and returned to home. I was worth it because of all the outdated support equipment I'd be tempted to change with a new LCD or plasma.
I paid to have one of the experts on this page help me with my Hitachi 55 in, and all they would recommend was to replace the Convergence Amplifiers. I read elsewhere, that this TV has a habitual problem with fuse E994 and a capacitor c707. I just replaced both for a little more than $5.00, and the TV came back to life!!!! I'll try to find the web page that I referenced for the repair, and let you know.

My Hitachi used to eat Horizontal output transitors. I do not even know if your uinit has that anymore, but if that goes out the unit wont make the B+ voltage needed to power up the unit.
have somene try to start the car while you listen under the hood for the weird sound of something spinning it kinda sound like something griding. sometimes it occurs 2 to 3 seconds after turning the key. if you hear that sound then it's your starter i just had the same problem about a day ago . it's easy to fix i took mine out and had it rebuilt for 55 bucks reinstaled it and it started right up. here's a that will guide you through the repairing process.. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2076435
I finally got information from the repair shop. Apparently it is the
upper and lower panel drive. The parts are supposedly not more than a
couple hundred dollars, though I'll let you know when I get the bill. I
do want to say that Hitachi was great when I called them. Even though
my plasma is out of warranty by a few months, they agreed to pay for
parts if I pay for labor. That just might keep me buying Hitachi
products despite the issues I've had with my 2 plasmas.
The straight answer is you need a new flyback transformer model number FBT2436493A. No need to check anything, just get one and have someone qualified in soldering put it in. Don't go poking around in the unit, their are capacitors that are charged with a couple thousand volts. It can kill you.
