My digital Rebel is not focusing the lens correctly

My digital Rebel is 4 years old and has been working great but now it doesn't seem to be focusing the lens correctly. I have tried to change lenses and that doesn't help.

Frequently the cause for these problems regardless of the camera manufacturer is either the small, brass connections are dirty, the back glass of the lens is dirty, or the reflector is dirty. Use caution when cleaning the glass, only use the proper cloth. Same goes for the reflector.
To clean the brass connectors use a foam tip Q-tip or very very carefully use a regular Q-tip. Dip it in 99% alcohol (NOT regular isopropyl alcohol, it's only 70% and contains water - not good! Be sure to check the label!) Once the contacts are clean on both the camera body and the lens, allow them to dry thoroughly (which doesn't take long outside, but any alcohol that got in the cracks may still be wet.). Not allowing the parts to dry completely can cause them to short out, then you've go bigger problems. Just a little patience goes a long way!
Good Luck!

Our Canon EOS Rebel XSi no longer works on auto focus. The flash works but the camera just makes clicking noises and the screen says "busy". Any suggestions? The camera works fine in manual...

Optical focus relies on a gear driven motorized system to focus the lens. It sounds like the drive is either frozen by a foreign object (it doesn't take much) has gotten into the system, or a tooth has worn/broken on the gearing.

Try taking the lens off and blowing the camera out with some canned air. If that doesn't do it, it's a trip to the repair center.

I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with the original 18-55mm lense and a Quantarey 70-300mm lense. Have had all pieces for 3 years now and everything worked great until last night. Camera focuses and...

This means that the communication with the Quantarey lens is not the right one.

You can try in cleaning the lens contacts and the camera contacts with a pencil eraser or a white erase (flip down the camera so no particles get inside the mirror box).

If still you are having problems, then that means the Quantarey lens is defective, and either needs to be service to be repaired, or you will need to get another zoom lens.

Best regards,

Lack of focus

I knew the problem was with the auto focus. First time I called the camera shop..they said "bring it in, we'll diagnose it...for about $200.) I tried a cvouple of days later...he said they would trouble shoot for free.

HOWEVER...he said to check to see that the lens was seated securely and correctly. I had taken lense off a few weeks ago and it was not reinstalled correctly. One small twist of the lens and back to perfect forcus!

Auto focus isn't working

Check the lens. If the switch is set to MF then it is in Manual Focus.

Another cause could be custom function 4 - try setting this to 0 for the default

Canon EFS Lens question- please help!!

Make sure that the switch on the lens is set to AF. If that doesn't work, you may have a faulty lens. The EFS 18-55 is not a high quality lens.

I had the same problem a few moths ago when I tried to use a Quanta lens. Go into the second tools menu, select clear settings, then select Clear all Custom Functions. It worked for me I hope it works for you.
