You've never mentioned what kind of compressor. Assuming an air compressor for pneumatic tools. Your most likely answers are that you don't have enough amperage available from the breaker either due to the breaker being too low amperage, or you have too much stuff running on that same circuit. If it runs for a while then shuts off, check to see if a portable heater is plugged into the same circuit, or a hair drier, or any other high amperage appliance.

Also, make sure you use the appropriate size extension cord if you are using one. If the cord is too small for the power draw, it will trip the circuit.

Possible causes , do not use ext. cord on compressor unless it's HEAVY gauge, also if you have any thing else running on the same breaker, It might cause it to pull too much power.

How to fix problem of Air conditioner doesn't turn on

If your central air conditioner doesn't go on automatically:
1) Be sure the thermostat is set to “cool” and that the set temperature is well below the ambient temperature.
2) A central air conditioner should be on a dedicated 240-volt circuit; check the main electrical panel and any secondary circuit panels for a tripped breaker or blown fuse. If you find the problem there, reset the breaker or replace the fuse.
3) Make sure the furnace power switch is turned on and that the outdoor condenser's power switch, which is mounted on the outdoor unit, hasn't been shut off. Also, be sure the 240-volt disconnect next to the compressor, which is in a metal box, usually mounted on the house wall, hasn't been shut off.
4) Turn off the power to the air conditioner and check the thermostat.
5) Remove the thermostat's cover and unscrew the wire from the Y terminal.
6) Turn the power back on.
7) Holding the wire by its insulation ONLY, touch the bare end to the R terminal and hold it there for about two minutes. If the compressor kicks on, the thermostat is faulty; replace it or call an air-conditioning technician. If the compressor doesn't go on when you hold the two wires together, turn the power back off and call a technician.

15 AMP breaker keeps tripping

do a amp check on the compressor and fans. That will tell you exactly what is overloading.

Lg air condition doesn't work when it is cold outside

Sounds like the crankcase heater. This is likely hooked to a temp sensor that is activated when it gets below a certain temp. There is likely a short in the heater and it trips the breaker. The heater keeps the refrigerant warm inside the compressor when compressor not running. Find a different technician.

The compressor turns on for only a minute or two and then kicks off with a jolt. It is a 14000 BTU ARP-3014 unit. I looked at the filter and it is clean. What could be the problem?

couple of ideas overload protector tripping because compressor either has a bad start capacitor or relay or run capacitor You need to put an amp probe n the main power to the compressor to check amp draw at startup as compressor could be locked up.
You could also shut breaker off and or main power plug and then meter the compressor winding to check if their bad
You should know how to use a volt meter and continuity check

Heater shut down sometime in the middle of the night and now it will not turn on. I checked the breaker box and when I flipped the master switch, it came on for about a minute or two but was blowing cold...

Hi what has happened is, this is a heat pump. The main breaker keeps tripping because the compressor is shorted. I hate to give you this news, but anytime a unit keeps tripping the main breaker on a heat pump, the compressor is either locked up and drawing enough amps to trip the breaker, or it is shorted internally. This is something that you will have to call a tech out on. I am sorry to give you this news, but this is all it could be. If it came on for a minute blowing cold air, the compressor wasn't running due to it being shorted out. This is your only choice is to call someone out to check it. If this is a older unit, you may be better off replacing the outdoor unit. If not, get an estimate on a compressor change out. I wish you all the best on this, and I know this is bad news, but these things always happen at the wrong time of year. Please keep me posted.

My Campbell Hausfeld 30 gal 6.5 hp oilless compressor, WL611201 trips the breaker when I switch it on auto. But will not trip the breaker if I use the breaker as an on off swithch. However, it somtimes...

not likely as your pressure switch is pneumatic, What else operates on that same breaker, perhaps replace the breaker as they sometimes get "tired"

hope this helps

Let me know

Hitachi RAS09UH randomly pops 15A circuit breaker

Two things that you could check: 1) If you have access to an ampmeter, determine if the unit is drawing over over 14 or 15 amps, 2) replace the suspect circuit breaker in case it is beginning to go bad. Breakers only trip for overcurrent conditions or failure of the breaker itself. If it is pulling close to 15 amps, then it could heat up over time and trip.

Coleman RV Rooftop Air conditioner

If the compressor is tripping the breaker, then its 1 of 2 things. First clean the coils and change the air filter. If the coils are dirty and/or the filter is clogged, it will make the compressor overload and the high amp draw will make the breaker trip. If this doesn't solve the problem, you need to check the compressor itself. remove the connections at the compressor, leaving only 3 posts on it. You will need a meter to check for continuity to all 3. They should all have continuity to each other. While there check the wires. Sometimes a burnt wire will come off and arc on something causing the breaker to trip, if you are lucky.

Central air conditioner doesn't turn on... Any suggestions?

If the compressor turns off and won?t come back on during a very hot day, the unit may have built up a high "head" pressure and the high-pressure limit switch may have tripped. This is usually located right inside the access panel on the compressor unit. Simply push the button to return it to operation. If your central air conditioner doesn't go on automatically: 1) Be sure the thermostat is set to "cool" and set below room temperature. 2) A central air conditioner should be on a dedicated 240-volt circuit; check the main electrical panel and any secondary circuit panels for a tripped breaker or blown fuse. If you find the problem here, reset the breaker or replace the fuse. 3) Make sure the furnace power switch is turned on and that the outdoor condenser's power switch, mounted on the outdoor unit, hasn't been shut off. Also be sure the 240-volt disconnect next to the compressor (in a metal box, usually mounted on the house wall) hasn't been shut off. 4) Turn off the power to the air conditioner and check the thermostat. 5) Remove the thermostat's cover and unscrew the wire from the Y terminal. 6) Turn the power back on. 7) Holding the wire by its insulation, touch the bare end to the R terminal and hold it there for about 2 minutes. If the compressor kicks on, the thermostat is faulty; replace it or call an air conditioning technician. If the compressor doesn't go on when you hold the two wires together, turn the power back off and call a service technician.
