Powers up then shuts down after a couple of seconds.

Hi I have an Acer 5315 laptop which has been dropped, the screen is cracked, when you turn it on it powers up for a couple of seconds then shuts down, I would be gratefull if you could sugest the probable cause of the quick shutdown.

Dropping it sounds like it did a load for your screen, wonder what else it broke. Ya I agree change hard drive and cross fingers that, that will fix the issue. If it does then you lucky, alot cheaper. If it's something more serious gooood luck. Do you have any tendencies to spill things on your laptop's keyboard??? Hehe I have that tendency and i have gotten similar results like you said you have. I dont know how much you know about laptop's but they are the most pain to keep it from getting injured. Water on the keyboard can lead to: it not powering up, it eventually does if it gets over heated *warms up the water mess in there. Sometimes will short the wiring for your laptop screen different things.

Apparently you damaged an internal component.
Your BIOS program performs a POST (Power On Self Test) on each of your computer's devices before it will allow the operating system to boot up. The POST protects your computer from damage to more devices if it runs into a fatal error with one.

I suspect that your hard drive may have been damaged. Hard drive is not the first thing checked, which would account for the few seconds that the POST runs. And, hard drives are easily damaged.

SInce your POST shut down your computer so early, it's hard to tell what else might have been damaged, but I would think it would be worth replacing the hard drive and trying to boot the computer up again.

Good luck with it!!

We have a cracked lcd moniter. It is for an Acer Aspire 5315 15.4". How much would a repair like that cost?

Hi,

As per Acer repair policy, cracked screen is not covered under standard warranty. They will charge you $199 inorder to replace the screen. However, if know any local retailer or tech you can consult with them.

Thanks and regards,

Acer 5315 cmos battery what kind of problems might i have if this is bad my laptop is running about 63 celcius it just powers down frequently

The mainboard in the motherboard probably has an auto shut off feature that turns off the computer when it gets to a certain temperature to stop damage to the computer, i have to suggest you take it to a computer retailer to clean out, and replace the paste on the CPU, if there is any on it, im not 100% sure on laptops, But its probably dust build up and some new thermal paste

Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook will not power on

disconnect the battery from the laptop and only hook up the ac adaptor. Turn the laptop on and if it still cuts off after 5 seconds then reseat the memory back into its slots. Also make sure your air vents are not clogged with dirt or dust as lack or air flow can cause the laptop to shut off. If that doesn't do it then take out the hard drive and dvd drive and turn on the laptop. If the laptop still cuts off then it has to be a faulty motherboard at that point which means to much voltage is going thru and the components on the motherboard are not regulating it properly.

Acer aspire 5315

Hi,

Since the Acer Aspire 5315 works except that the display is dark, then it would be safe to assume that it is only the LCD display part that is the issue. Often LCD display (of laptops) are working but only that you can not see the actual display. One way to verify is to shine a flashlight at an oblique angle to the screen, semblance or part of the desktop could be seen. If the desktop could be seen (albeit very very dark background) then it could either be the CCF Lamps (cold cathode florescent) or the inverter that powers the lamps.

Often, the defective component would be the inverter. It is relatively easy to replace the inverted. It is sometimes more difficult and challenging cracking open the casing of the display panel of the laptop than replacing the inverter. Additionally, inverters are readily available online. It is also not surprising that inverters for other brands/models would also be used in your Acer Aspire 5315.

This would be a good place to start for inverter boards. This is a nice tutorial if you are considering a DIY.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
