Question about Bissell 7901-1 ProHeat Scotchgard Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum

1 Answer

Bissell I inherited the Bissell Model 790 Steam Vac. No solution will come out. Apparently it's clogged somewhere as the previous owner appeared to have used it to vacumn up a powdered carpet cleaner. How do I resolve this problem as the machine is barely used and I would like to salvage it. Thank you

Re: Bissell

Check the belts first, if ok, does water squirt out of the hose nozzzle, if it does then the heate in the handle asm. is clogged where the tubes hook up to it. If no water squirts out, the the pump isn't working. Pull the top cover off, check all tubes to make sure there is no clog. Make sure the tubes are routed right so as not pinch one, also make sure the piston is mounted on the smart mix knob. and the knob is in the water setting before putting the cover back on. The cap for the flow indictor is leaking are or screwed on too tight. The seal at the bottom of the tank is not on the tank and is missing or sitting in the hole where the water goes.

Hoover steamvac won't spray water/cleaning solution

Clogging of the pump that sprays water/cleaning solution is very common in Hoover and Bissell Steam Vacs. Try running a cycle of 1part vinegar or CLR to 3 parts warm, distilled water through the vacuum pumps. The heads get clogged with soap and the water pumps get clogged at the opening of the flash heater due to minerals in hard water. If you want to extend the life of your steam vac, don't use the heater unless you are using distilled water. This can get expensive, so I recommend not using the heater.

On my Bissell shampooer, model 7901-b i have no suction

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
If you have no suction, you could have a base seal in the recovery tank, there could be a clog or blockage, or check the clear tubes to see the they are crimped or pinched so that the vac is not getting any air, or start from the bottom and work your way up to where you do get suction and you should find the problem, a lot of times it is a gasket or the recovery tank is not on there securely or you may have a broken part that needs replacement. So feel free to check with the local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area in the yellow pages under vacuums, check the trouble shooting section to your owner’s manual or call the factory or check the website and maybe down load or have them mail out a owner’s manual. Need small hose and connector parts for a bissell steam vac. model 1690

Sorry but Bissell has obsoleted this model and all of its parts. About all you can do is call around and see if some one would happen to still have what you want in stock. Might be wiser to buy new.
