Question about Computers & Internet

I have an NEC S970 laptop and cannot boot it

I have an NEC S970 laptop and was using it fine on an extended monitor because my son had unintentionally cracked the screen on the laptop. Now I cannot boot it - I can get it to the screen which says 'Repair the computer' or 'Start windows normally' but after pressing the enter key it just stays on a black screen, sometimes continually 'loading' OR it will go to the black screen with the mouse arrow showing and I can press Caps Lock which will light up on the laptop as well as NumLock but nothing else responds and shows on the external monitor except the fact that the resolution is incorrect, however, as I can read the text when I press F8 at the startup screen which asks me to press (F2) or (F12), after pressing F8 I'm given options such as 'Safe mode', 'Safe mode with networking' etc...I'm guessing that its not the resolution on the external monitor but something else I need to try to get my laptop to respond. It just loads a list of drivers when I press 'safe mode' and then I end up with a blank screen and nothing else happening..

when I press f8 it gives me a list of choices but none of the choices say 'enable vga' and I cannot log in because everytime I choose a choice I still end up with a black screen on my external monitor and after awhile I'm left with a black screen and the mouse arrow which I can move around but no response to any key pushes at all.

Possibly the drive is dead or the screen is no good any more.Try going back in Bios and change language. If it doesn't boot up possibly the drive or monitor is no good.If the laptop has a vga or hdmi connection you could try hooking it up to a TV or another monitor to see if it will boot up past the xp logo to test if the monitor is really broken or no good.

My NEC MultiSync LCD1970NX monitor went black while in use and green power light is flashing.

If the system is booting up and if you see the "NUM LOCK" key lighting up in your keyboard then the system is working fine. The problem is with your graphic card. Check and repalce it. If not, the problem is with your monitor. Check the warranty and ask for a replacement.

I want to use a NEC Multisync 1700V monitor as an external display for my Thinkpad T400. However I get no image when I hook up the laptop and change the display scheme to display on my laptop screen +...

The only I can think of is the resolution setting that your T400 is putting out that your NEC does not like andcannot display, look at the T42 resolution when the NEC is hooked up to it and try to set it to be the same in the T400.

Nec 700 crt

Not a solution at all, but I'll post that I have a NEC MultiSync FE700 monitor that I purchased back in 2001, and have I been using the monitor since that time. Lately the monitor has been showing signs of 'acting up'. I read on the Internet that CRT monitors generally have a working life of about six years. It may be, depending on years of use, that the monitors are just reaching the end of their life.
