SOURCE: burning smell
the power source is trying to start and it sint. the lamp is done with because thiese tvs need high voltage. its probably melting pallastic around it . get rid of this, much money to fix up and or try getting itn fixed if stiill have legeble warranty

mine is doing the same thing but i was able to pinpoint it to a capacitor arching and smoking. haven't replaced it yet so i'm not sure if it's just a bad capacitor or a more involved issue.

I wrapped electrical tape around the transformer in the back, that stops the sparks, don't ask me how is that so. I just thought, the elect. tape would prevent the static from traveling to any other parts of the circuit inside of the tv. Don't try it if you think it's not going to work. It is dangerous and I got zapped 2 times before I got it right. be careful

Ur high voltage is dead.The fly back transformer.Big black block of plastic with a red wire with cap to the CRT(tv tube) is dead.Usally that where the noise came from.
