When powering up, the detector goes through a short diagnostics test to make sure everything is working as expected. If there is a problem detected during this time, a message like the one you have displayed will appear. You should contact Beltronics Customer Support to arrange service with one of the methods listed at the bottom of this post.

SOURCE: Beltronics Vector 985

If its still under warrenty Call Beltronics 800-341-2288 I had the same problem and they re-tuned the Detector and updated the firmware my Vector 985 was out of warrenty by 5 months and Bel repaired it for free. Hope this helps

if you leave it in your car in the sun it can overheat and say service required it justs happen to mine a couple days ago and i let it cool down and it worked try that

Beltronics rx65 service required can I fix this problem??


This detector - along with other high-end types that require a microprocessor to analyze signals - performs a self-test when powering up. This is done for the same reasons a Power On Self Test is done on your computer. There's a lot going on inside and if just one area is malfunctioning data may not be processed correctly and in the case of the detector - resulting in aggravating false alarms or worse - not indicating an alert when needed.

You should arrange for the detector's return to Beltronics for thorough checking / realignment. Contact Beltronics via this link.

The USB Port?


The USB port on many high - end radar detector models is for sending one of or the combination of: firmware updates and databases that hold red light camera & known speed trap locations. The database type uploads are usually reserved for those devices that have internal GPS devices. Some others may allow changing settings that may not be readily accessible from the detector's user control panel.

Some USB ports are for possible later use - meaning that the use of the USB port has not yet been utilized. You should contact your detector manufacturer's web site (or customer service representative) to determine what services (if any) are available for the detector via the USB port. Be aware that some services require a one time payment or subscription.

My radar detector keep flashing service required


it means that something on the main board went out call escort or return it if its new. and underwarrenty otherwise you will have to buy a new one. sorry for the bad news.

Says service required when turn on


"Service required" means that the detector failed the self test when it was powered on. I would call Escort at (800) 964-3138 and see if they are able to repair it.

I keep getting a service required message, why is that? How do I correct the problem? Susan

Icalled the number and they were helpful, told me to use a packingservice like UPS and such. Insure it. And it would take about 5-7 daysfor them to work on it, another 3-4 days of shipping time.
Consideringthe reviews on the rx65 and the prices for detectors out there, andconsidering that they will also apply any software updates (bought minein '06) the $60 repair fee is worth it for me.

Service required


This message is generated only after a Bel or Escort radar detector has repeatedly encountered problems while trying to self-calibrate its radar detection circuitry. The Service Required message literally means that you must send in your RD for service since there is nothing that can be done to fix whatever the problem is short of sending it in for factory service. At least it will come back working like brand new!

Hold all THREE buttons, one is located on the front right of the detector, while turning the detector on.
