hi! yes, I think the problem may have been with the pod holder, the single one that came with it works fine but the double one i used with my old machine doesn't provide the crema layer.

  • davida62 May 11, 2010

The crema layer isn't particularly deep sometimes. Are you using Douwe Egberts or Sara Lee coffee pods, the correct pod holder, and the correct number of pods for the holder? Sometimes, non-Philips pods won't provide that layer.

You may find that the plastic disc on the bottom of the pod holder is not sealing (there is an O ring) ,if the amount of coffee dispensed is more than usual that will be the problem, just buy a new pod holder.

My Phillips Senseo only produces a small amount of water why?.

Hi Have you tried to clean and de-scale it, limescale can really play havoc with these sort of devices. If you still have the instruction book give it a read and follow instructions for de-scaleing. Also there is a cleaning cycle on some of the models which just flushes the senseo through to clear it out again it is in the book but if I remember rightly you fill up the resoviour then turn it on and put a large bowl under the spout and press both the one and two cup buttons at once. But I would do a descale phillips say it should be done about every 3 months this should also clean out any other muck that has built up, they also say to clean out the pod holder including the little hole. The Phillips website has help if you have lost the booklet.

First, there's a Windows 7 update available atwww.Futura-support.com. Click on the lefthand side, then on CE100/150/250/350,etc, etc. Follow the directions CAREFULLY. First, be sure the uninstall ALLFutura software you've attempted to install and reboot your PC.

If for some reason this doesn't solve you're problem, I've posted a set ofinstructions athttp://www.fixya.com/support/r8955271-use_machine_windows_7_or_vista that willallow you to run the software under XP on your Windows 7 machine. This is a bitmore complicated a solution, but if you follow the instructions carefully, youshould be fine. Try the Futura update first, though.

I hope this solves you're problem. Happy embroidery!

Why doesn't my Krups espresso maker produce crema when I brew espresso? Very little is produced and gets blasted away by the time it's don't brewing.

Crema is the goldish brown top that goes onto the top of the coffee once it is dispersed from the espresso tap and flows naturally as part of the coffee when coffee is made. Im not sure what you mean "blasted."
Perhaps you should flush through the machine with cold water a couple of times beforehand and also consider a descaling kit - check your manual or Krups if there is one for this model.
Crema isn't produced by any machine though.

Decreased output from Senseo

I'm thinking it needs to be "Descaled" Heres info from Senseo.com:

Does my Senseo® appliance need to be descaled? Yes. Descaling is an important element in Senseo maintenance. It should be done at least once every three months, up to six times a year!

Keeping your Senseo free of scale will:
  • Ensure you have maximum cup volume
  • Ensure you have maximum coffee temperature
  • Make your Senseo produce less sound while brewing
  • Prevent your Senseo from malfunctioning
  • Prolong your Senseo's life.
The descaling process takes about one hour and should not be interrupted. Only a descaling agent based on citric acid can be used safely in the Senseo. Other agents, including vinegar, may damage your appliance or not remove the scale entirely. If the procedure is not performed correctly, scale residue may remain in the machine. This causes scale to build up more quickly and may cause permanent and irreparable damage to the machine.

For the right procedure to descale your type of Senseo, see attached document.

Senseo machine has started producing very weak coffee

I don't know if you've tried this, but it works like gangbusters for me. I use non-senseo pods with the 2-pod holder, and they're too big for the 1-pod holder but not quite big enough for the 2-pod one.

I would frequently end up with a lousy, weak cup of coffee, and after a little investigation I deduced that water was flowing into the pod holder and AROUND the pod, without going THROUGH the pod directly. The name-brand senseo pods fit perfectly, and always produce a strong cup, even if I don't like their coffee, and it's because there's such a tight seal between where water flows in and where it flows out.

Simple solution: Put your pod in with the flat part facing up, and the bulgy part facing down. Press it down hard into the 2-cup holder. Run a little HOT tap water, and lightly wet the surface of the pod--not so much water that the pod starts floating in the holder, but enough to get it soggy. Then make your cup of coffee. The water will flow through the pod first, and kind of like siphoning gas through a hose, once it's started going through the pod it won't stop. Instant awesome cup.

UNABLE TO GET GOOD CREMA ON TOP OF COFFEE:

It could be. Your grind should determine the amount of time that it takes the shot to pour. Standard is 18 - 30 seconds. I prefer 25. If it only takes 10 sec, your crema will be weak.
Are your beans fresh? Older beans produce less crema. By old, I mean more than a month if properly stored.
What is the temperature of you shots? The water coming out of the head should be about 195 F which makes the shots roughly 170-185. If it's too cold, you'll get worse crema. It's also possible to have mostly steam in contact with the grounds which will give the same results. Both indicate other problems.
Make sure your group head screen isn't clogged. And make sure everything is very clean, especially inside the handle (under the grounds basket - just pop it out with a screwdriver). Good luck!
