Try to change your booting setup in your bios maybe it reads first the hardisk not your cd rom.

None of the keys work to get into bios setup so that i can change the boot order. i need to reinstall windows xp pro because of the error code 0x07e bsod

As SOON as you press the power on button, start tapping on the F12 key.
When the Boot Device list appears, use the Up, or DOWN arrow key to highlight CDROM.

(The option goes by very F-A-S-T.
It's easy to go right by it. Don't wait until you see the Dell logo splash screen)

Press the Enter key.
Put the Restoration Disk, or Windows XP full installation disk in the optical drive.
Press any key to Boot from CDROM.

Corrupt missing C:\windows\system32\config\system no original windows xp oem disk cannot use recovery console cannot get to a c:/ prompt no floppies have cd rom bios does not support usb boot possiblity...

Your master boot record of the hard disk is damaged. I suppose you have access to CDROM through bios. But it is not clear from your question. Set CDROM as first boot device. Get a bootable CD & make sure that it contains fdisk utility. Boot from it & you will get a:\ prompt. at a:\prompt type fdisk/mbr & press enter. Your master boot record of hard disk will replace. Now you will be able to go to c:\ prompt. Use your your xp cd to recover your windows.

Dell Optiplex GX270 will not boot from disk

Does it show

boot from cdrom?
did you answer (Y)
then hit spacebar?
have the bios set to boot from cdrom/first boot device cd-rom?
If any of these settings are not applyed you will not restore xp on your computer

go into bios and conferm settings

first boot device if set as floppy or hard drive change to cdrom
on some systems you can hit the (f12) key to bring up a boot window and select the cdrom and boot from there then it will ask the normal questions

Getting problem in formatting the IBM PC

check if the cable from the cd rom connected to your ibm pc if its ok , also check the master, slave configuration pins into the back of your cdrom. make sure that theres no conflict between the hard disk and the cdrom. Your cd rom may probably cannot be detected. make sure that it is working first. then install the hard disk. The hard disk must be in primary master and the cd rom must be in primary slave. then try booting it to your cd rom. also, try checking if your windows xp setup disk is bootable, it means that it can boot from cd rom. PM me if you have other experiences after doing what i adviced. Thank You.. heres my email. jmizpahadonai777@gmail.com

I want to boot from cd to change windows from xp to 98

enter the bios set up on start up. Go to boot sequence, change 1st option to cdrom instead of main drive. Save and exit. Let it boot up, put 98 disk in cdrom. Shut down, reboot and win 98 installation will begin asking you to over write existing ops sys. Choose yes and the install should be a breeze after this. Once xp is installed, dont forget to return to the bios and change back your boot sequence to hard drive as primary /master.

Please check if the hard drive comes with small wire bridge inserted in master pins (not in slave or cs) all the disk come with three diff posisions, for this small bridge comes in colours black , white or blue. in ide hard disk.
after that please goes the computer to setup F2 and start in boot seccion and active only ide cdrom ( please don't use a hard drive or floppy options.) other systems with f12 and u can star with cdrom and insert the operating system(windows 98, Xp or vista and the machine starting the load againg. please check step by step for replace the missing information.

Boot problem - Win98SE

change the boot sequence in bios set up ...
keep in this order
first boot device as floppy
2.hard disk
3.cdrom

then save it and then have a check it should work ..
you have not mention hard disk here so i think the hard disk is not detected there may be some loose contact inside and it is not connected properly so it is not able to verify DMI pool ...
if so connect the hard disk properly then then have a check it will surely work..........

If you mean you need to install windows, you need to set your cdrom drive as first boot device in advanced bios settings or it will try to boot into a non-existent windows. Make sure your hdd is showing as the master drive, save settings and exit bios. Re-boot pc with windows disc in cd drive and hit enter when prompted to boot from cd.
