Dyson dc07 is getting really hot but is NOT cutting out

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's normal for a vacuum cleaner's exhaust air and casing to become warm in use, due to the heat created by the motor when it's running. Dyson vacuums are equipped with a thermal cutout device, and this will shut the vacuum down if it starts to overheat.

It's worth checking your machine for blockages, and giving the pre-filter a wash - we recommend doing this at least once every 3-6 months as shown in the video attached. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for both parts of the filter to dry completely before replacing them.

As long as your DC07 is picking up as normal and isn't making an unusual noise or smell in use, there shouldn't be an issue. But if you're concerned, you're welcome to reach out to our experts for further advice. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Is it possible to overheat the motor?

This can happen , normally if the filters are kept clean and replaced now and again the motor should last quite a few years if it does overheat then it has a thermal cut off that resets after it cools down ,,Hope this is of some help

Dyson dc07 keeps cutting out after few minutes

This is a sure sign of a blockage. The motor cuts out because it gets too hot and will start again when it has cooled. Follow the instructions in your user manual for clearing blockages (you can download a copy from the Dyson website if necessary). Make sure the washable filter is clean too (and completely dry before you use it).

So, if anything causes it to overheat, it will switch off. If this happens, leave the cleaner switched off for at least two hours, as it will not start again until it has cooled down.
The most common cause of a cut-out is that the cleaner has a blockage or the filter needs washing. A high room temperature may also trigger it. Before you continue vacuuming, ensure the filter is clean and there are no blockages. You can download the user guide at www.dyson.co.uk/support/. Motor overheats and shuts off

The priamry cause of motors overheating is that the filters are not cleaned or replaced frequently enough. Once a motor starts to overheat, it has already been damaged and even after the filters have been cleaned, may well still overheat and cut-out. The motor has a built in over-current trip to protect itself (and you if it seriously overheated). This normally automatically resets itself, however if the motor has just about had it, the moemnt it is switched on, it just trips again.

Replacement motors are avaible on eBay for about £25, however repalcing one requires good DIY skills and tools.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.
