It works like that cos the signal is not reaching other places in your house . Either get the router to a position that has a good line of sight with the other rooms or get an access point.
Hope this helps
Thanks Ranjit

I cant get through wireless from my room any suggestions on how to fix this problem

it depends wireless by its very nature is not the most stable connection. Everything and anything can affect wireless distance between computing device and router. Placing the router in the most central part of the house can help changing the wireless channel can also help. Knowing what frequency the router works on and if there are any other wireless devices working on same frequency can also affect wireless signals. if your router is 2.4 which is most common check you cordless phones, baby monitors, wireless speakers, other wireless devices for same frequency. Also wireless boosters can help. try google or calling your internet provider , Keep in mind that NO internet company can guarentee wireless...

I'm trying to hook up a second computer in my son's room. Problem - how do I connect the second computer to my Comcast cable router which is a Motorola SB5100 so he can get internet over the cable?

In the picture, it looks like a wireless router. In that case, his computer just needs a wireless card to get the internet. Or, you can hard wire it directly from the modem to the computer, if you don't have a wireless card for the computer.

Hi, to connect your computer to the wireless network of the router you need to have a wireless adapter. The bluetooth adapter will not work in this case as the router does not communicate with the bluetooth signals.

Purchase a wireless adapter like NETGEAR WG111

Rate it, if it helps.

Airport card only works in same room as router

Do you have a cordless phone in the apartment?
how many rooms do you have and in which room is the signal low? What router do you have?

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:

  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router:
  • Router mfg'ssuggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the router may cause conflict with other routers within your network range. change the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

New laptop, connected to router, no connection to internet

Your DHCP server is either disabled or have not enough room for anymore computers. set the number of ips to "more" than what you need ie 3 or 4.
