Question about Washing Machines

3 Answers

I have a commercial Whirlpool washing machine in a rental property. My tenant tells me he did a load of colored clothes and the washer worked fine. He then attempted to do a load of whites and the washer filled up, but would not agitate or spin out and all I hear is a humming sound when the motor tries to run. Could something be stuck in the pump from the last load of colored clothes and jam the motor? Thanks, Mike.

Switch power off and remove clothing from machine. drain water from unit by lowering pipe as far down as possible. Once empty, tilt washer backwards until you see the motor. The motor connects to the gearbox by means of a motor coupling. This coupling is very possibly broken. To check, turn the motor shaft on the motor side and see if the gearbox shaft also turns. There will also be a fair amount of black residue in the vicinity to suggest a problem exists. If you can see the coupling is broken,it can be ordered from the supplier as a spare part.(motor coupler. consists of 2 plastic discs and a black rubber piece} .You need to disconnect plug in wires from the motor terminals then undo 2 small screws holding the motor into place with metal clips to enable you to remove motor. Slide motor to one side to separate it from the gearbox. Once separated, remove broken pieces then replace with new parts. Reinstall in the reverse sequence and try washer. If coupling is good and not faulty, make sure the white wire on the motor terminals is properly pushed onto its terminal. Let me know please.

Could be some item got under the agitator, and jammed it. ask the tenant if any of his 'darks' are missing. could be a scarf, or something similar. set it on drain and get rid of the water in the drum. take out the white load, see if you can turn the agitator by hand. if it doesn't move, or seems to bind, then try feeling under the edge or run a butter-knife under the edge. if you feel something 'fabric-ey'- try to catch the end, and unwind it from the agitator shaft! try a 'clock-wise' direction. suggest you unplug washer before you stick your hands in there!!
good luck!

They... SHOULD be somewhat wet. This isn't a dryer, it's a commercial washer. After washing your clothing, you'll need to dry them.

Washer leaves stains on clothing

Many times when we cook in the kitchen, we get splattered with oils that aren't easily visible. Very often these oil spots pick up dirt from the wash water. These stains don't usually get noticed until after the clothes have been dried. The best thing to do is to rub detergent or stain remover right on these spots and let them sit about half an hour. Then rewash the clothes in as hot water as the material can take afterwards.

Bad smell from front load Miele washing machine

If you have a smelly front loading clothes washing machine, toss in a Finish Geltabs (the ones that are all liquid) and run the machine on a hot wash cycle, medium to heavy load (to get more water in the tub) with no clothes in the machine. You don't need to use much of a spin cycle so set it on low. The washing machine will come clean and even the moldy spots on the rubber gaskets will disappear. A second treatment may be needed if the smell is not completely gone. We tried everything from vineger to bleach to baking soda to borax to commercially available odor removers from Whirlpool and Tide. Nothing worked until I hit on this idea. It's cheap, easy and can be done anytime your machine needs a refreshing. I used the orange Geltabs but any fragrance would be fine. Keep the door on your washer open a bit when possible to air out to help preclude those nasty smells.

sounds like adrain line issue, your creatring a syphoning effect . id assume thedrain line is either real low, perhaps running across thefloor or is screwed tightly to a longer hose ejecting through a wall with a full dry well
