The black box is called a text box and it is a selection in the
closed caption feature or CC......go thru each menu page until
you find CC....cycle thru choices until you get to off or try each selection until Text box and CC are off.................T.

Somehow you have turned on the Closed Captioning. Navigate the menues to the section controlling that and turn it off. That should resolve this.

Try turning off the closed captioning. I had an older panasonic that did the same thing-still don't know how it got turned on in the first place.

I had accidentally hit the text button and turned it on while trying to adjust the color. I turned it off with the remote and the problem went away.

I have a black box that suddenly appeard in the middle of my screen. This takes up nearly hlf the screen and will not go away unless I hit the volume control or any other control. It then goes away for...

My parent's JVC did this as well. It took us a little while to solve it (and through searching for how to fix it, found this post).

Using the JVC's remote control, we pushed the C.C. (closed caption) button and cycled to the "OFF" setting. That fixed it. Using the TV's front panel setting did not fix the issue, we had to use the remote control.

Note: the "text" CC setting re-displays the black box.

Zenith TV has a big black box in the middle of the screen.

After reading other postings, we figured out that it was the caption box, went to menu and turned it off.
Thanks for the great site, we wouldn't have figured it out without it !
