Have you installed anything into the computer before this error occured? Hardware, software, drivers, updates?
If so, while boot up press F8 and select booting save mode. Then remove the program tha is causing the trouble. Or go to system restore and have it automatically restored into a working configuration. That only wiorks if oyu have not turned it off yourself of course.
If this fails, get a live cd with linux, boot it up and if it works okay it is windows failure. Try reinstalling it. The last resort would be a hardware error, either on your hard drive or operating memory.

It might be ur OS problem, whenever after installing Os from bootable cd, try to keep bios options to default mode.

My Windows XP sp2 does not start up after the installation.

hi, I think you have not finish yet your OS installation, when installing OS just wait for it till you have see the start menu pop-up then there you go, you can now remove your installation CD. And express gate is a browser included in your ASUS motherboard that lets you boot up in seconds and enjoy your stuff even your OS is not fully loaded yet..

I have a Gateway 3520 laptop. I formatted the hard drive and installed XP on the drive. After powering on the laptop. You see Windows XP logo and when the hard drive tries to boot I see a blue screen...

    Do this:
Start the computer in safe mode.
If it starts OK, then click on Start and Run and then type in msconfig.
In the next window go to the startup tab (upper right of the window).
When the tab opens, at the lower right, click on disable all.
    Now restart the computer normally.
If you had a bad motherboard, it would not start in safe mode.
One of the items that showed up in the startup tab is causing the problem. You can run msconfig when running normally and enable the things one by one until you find the one causing the problem.
Oh--BTW--after running msconfig, when you start Windows, you will get a message saying the the utility had been run. You have to click the little box at the lower left of the window, or it will throw you right back into the configuration.

I believe the display is set out of range.

The "F8" key is the key to hit on startup to access the startup menu.
