There seems to be a crack in either the mirror or? Someone mentioned that it was swithed on in daytime and thus although it switches you can not see properly through the lens. Both the infrared as well as the illuminator(green) on my night vision monocular comes on. Is there a place in SA where this can be fixed and how much would it be?

Sounds like it was dropped.. The crack in the glass and the messed up functions could be caused by a fall.. Personally I'd get it back to the manufacturers to be sorted properly..

The mounts may be cracked. To determine this remove inside panel and see if mounts are cracked if so need to replace mirror. But if just loose tighten. I believe one or more mount are cracked only have three. Depending on year you might be able to get mirror at salvage yard
Their is a photo light sensor someware on the top of you dashboard or on backside of rearview mirror that has been covered possibly dash mat ? something hung on your rearview mirror.let me know.
You are possibly very close to the truth when you say someone has thrown a switch.
Take a look around outside, what starts to operate between those hours of the evening close by? Any amateuradio antennas close by? Workshops or night welding shops/neighbors etc? See if any of your neighbors also have similar problems, although you may be in better line of sight, so get the worst of it.
There is a triangular piece of plastic inside the door opposite the mirror. You remove the panel and you'll see 2 bolts. Remove the bolts and unplug the wire connector (if you have electric rear view mirrors) and the mirror will come right off. Installation is reverse.
Seems your ignition swith has come disconected from the key switch. The actual swith is not the key. The key links to a switch on top of the steering column down around the pedals. Or the switch itself is broken free. The switch is replaceable although a pain to access. No need to pull out the steering column. Good luck.
although the underhood relay panel is common, I'd check your headlamp bulbs first, these are cheaper than the fuse box. The daytime running lights work off the high beam circuit, thus, a blown highbeam bulb could be the culprit, the fusebox solution was more common on 2001 and up modles, although it's a definite possibility.
You can try to take out the selector swith for the up/down-in/out direction, disconnect the socket, and spray the switch and the connector,with contact spray. Move the switch in all direction several time, connect the socket and, before you replace the switch, try to operate the mirror function. I have done this on my own car, with success.
The switch is located on the front of the notebook, an oblong plastic clear button which flashes orange when working, normally next to a bluetooth button, although this may not be installed.
