The lamp on the power supply adapter should be on the minute it is plugged onto the AC outlet without the DC plug connected to the monitor, if it is not on then the AC adapter is bad, you can check the DC voltage with a digital meter. Post back so we can guide you further.
That isn't a 'power cord' but rather an adaptor since it supplies DC power from an AC source.
Since you did not include the brand name and model of the monitor, you won't get much help here.
I suggest you find that information and then go directly to the manufacturer's website to look for a replacement.
You will need at least a 4 amp rated regulated 12 Volt power supply. These are commercialy available from most electronics parts suppliers. They come on a circuit board. You can mount it in your own case and use the original Viewsonic wire end. If you do a google search for 12 volt reglated power supplies you should find many of these.
However, with a second-hand Sprint AC adapter with 3A, 12v adapter, the screen blinks on and off intermittently. Obviously there is some difference here between a class 2 adapter and a power supply box.
I don't know why it specifically say 100 - 240 VAC (That's AC Input), then label the jack as DC IN. So I'd guess it will run on either. Is there a jack or connector for the AC in as well? Most DC inputs are indeed around 12 Volts, this is so they can be operated on vehicle voltage.
You would need an adapter that puts out 12 Volt DC, Output Current: 3.3 Amp and the Center Positive Power Tip (Output Power: 40W).
The original ViewSonic adapter is M/N: UP06031120A
Hope this be of some help/idea/ Post back how things turn up or should you need further information.
Good luck and kind regards.
