Question about Karcher 2500 PSI Pressure Washer

Compressor will not engage.the engine runs fine but i can not get any high pressure.happenned suddenly while it was running.i have checked the wand for clogs.also,where is the unloader and how do i unstick it if thats the problem?

    mi maquina es una 2400 psi , y debes en cuando la maquina carga y descarga el agua cuando apreto el gatillo (trigger ) cual podra ser el problema

Here is the English version of what FLC Florencio said (to the best of my trx abilities :)

First you must purge the system. Connect the hose to the water intake without starting the machine and squeeze the pistol trigger to release all remaining air. Then start the machine without releasing the trigger.

    I am no expert, but I had the same problem. My Kaarcher washer was purchased from Costco a few years ago, always well kept in a garage. I just took the pump portion apart using the 4 bolts. It is spring loaded but nothing will jump out at you. It will come off as 2 plates. The first (closest to the motor) seems to transfer the rotary motion of the motor to 3 pumping pistons. The second receives and directs that force to the exit hole. Honestly all I did was dissassemble these two discs as much as possible using pliers to pull out plastic plugs with o rings. All the plastic and rubber in the pump looked great. I cleaned any debris I could find and squirted piston oil into any hole or crevis I could find. I know water will wash this out pretty quick, but it seemed to work. The unit still had the problem when I put it back together, then taking out the spray nozzle, activating, then replacing the nozzle and activating to get it to work as before todays opperation to get it to work. After a while of this, it started to work like it's supposed to more and more as I fiddled with it.

Maybe bad pump. Remove wand and wand hose, run machine with water in. High pressure water coming out of wand/hose connection, bad wand or hose. No high pressure water, bad pump, replace.

Yes , two , a low pressure an a high pressure cut off switch . If either of these were bad there would be a DTC - diagnostic trouble code stored in the PCM - engine computer . Does your Captive have manual or automatic heating an A/C ?
Pressure transducer switching incorporates the functions of the high-pressure and the low-pressure cutout switches along with the fan cycling switch. The pressure transducer is located in the high-side liquid refrigerant line behind the right strut tower, between the right strut tower and the front of dash. The output from this pressure transducer goes to the electronic control module (ECM), which controls the compressor function based on the pressure signal.

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Turn the blower switch to any position except OFF.
  3. Press the A/C switch to the ON position.
Does the A/C compressor clutch engage?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections
Go to Step 3


  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. Use the scan tool to command the A/C compressor clutch relay ON. When the relay is energized the cooling fan will also run at low speed.
Does the A/C compressor clutch engage?
Go to Step 8

Very little air pressure, unit was working great then all of a sudden very low pressure coming out. Unit runs fine, I disconnected hose but same issue.

Run the compressor up and use a soapy solution to find the leak(s). Especially check both ends of the tube running from the compressor head to the tank.

Replaced the ac compressor but now no power to compressor but have power to low and high pressure switches. checked relay under hood, relay and fuse in cabin. what am i missing?

Put a jump wire in the high pressure switch plug. If the compressor works. replace the high pressure switch. Let me know and we can go from there.

When idling(ie at red light), the ac was on high

Sounds as if the A/C Compressor has issues with the clutch/shaft locking up.... the blow off you heard was probably the pressure relief valve allowing an over charge of freon escape the system....however if the A/C system has a compressor problem or a clog that condition will also happen....can you have someone put a set of high/low gauges on it just for safety sake to be sure it is not developing too high of a head pressure...that would be my recoomendation....if the compressor locks up the belt can be thrown off causing your vehicle to require a tow/repair on the spot.

Clutch won't engage on air conditioning compressor

The air gap may be too wide between the clutch disc and plate. It usually happens from wear. You can test this possibility by engaging the clutch electrically as you have done and then push on the disc slightly with the handle of a hammer or screwdriver. Be careful not to get your hand or fingers too close while the engine is running. Basically you are helping the magnetic field pull the disc in. I hope this helps.

Compressor clutch does not engage--100 psi in system-

The compressor will not run without a minimum amount of R-134A. In some cases the compressor will shut itself down and require a reset (disconnect neg battery cable for 20min) prior to adding refrigerant. Best of luck with your AC issue.

A/C compressor clutch won't engage, system won't cool

Sounds to me like its simply ran out of gas!, get the system inspected, the clutch wont engage if there is no pressure in the system, hence the switch problem.
Get it recharged and check for leaks, vehicle with air con will loose around 50grams per year from normal usage, if its been years since it was check it could simply just need recharging.

Air conditioning problem

if pressure is in the red when engine is running and compressor is engaged, compressor clutch turning with pulley, and not getting cold air, it seems that your compressor may need to be changed. with engine running gage should read between 30 and 60 lbs.
